LOUISVILLE - LOUISVILLE - Ronald Lewis Risen, (Ronnie), 63, passed away Feb. 18, 2014, at the home of his sister, Beverly Hampton, in Louisville. Ron was born in Glasgow, and was preceded in death by his father and mother, Bill and Marcie Risen. Now cherishing his memory are his sisters, Beverly Hampton, and Jane Wright (Jason), of Glasgow; his nephew, Chris Hampton; his beloved nieces, Morgan, Sarah, and Emory; first cousins, Rita B. Charles, Perry Brantley, Terry and Jerry Hatchett, and MaryAnn Borders Blair; his former wife, Mary; other cousins and dear friends. Ron was a Vietnam veteran who suffered all of his adult life with PTSD and chronic physical illness. Despite terrible odds, Ron also had many years of happiness and achievements. In the early 1980s, Ron served the Portland community in Louisville, as a lay minister and director of the Portland Christian Mission. Many young people in Louisville's Portland neighborhood will recall the wonderful experiences Ron and his wife Mary provided them at summer camp programs at the Methodist Church Camp Kavanaugh in Crestwood. After moving to Montgomery, Ala. in 1989 Ron became active in the spiritual life of the city of Montgomery, graduated with honors from Auburn University and taught school in Montgomery. Ron gave his body to the U of L Medical School. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Ron loved his family, his fellow human beings, chocolate, and above all Jesus Christ. In the end, Love conquered all! "But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord." 2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJV - Glasgow (KY) Daily Times, Frdiay, 21 Feb 2014, p.
