I have just learned something very important about the 1850 Barren Co microfilmed census which you need to know. On some films, there are lines missing in Division 2. On other copies, those lines are there. Don't ask me how .. it's not a transcription error, it was something that happened years ago while microfilming. So, if you have a transcription of the 1850 census, check it and if the following is missing, please write it in. I have checked the corrected microfilm copy (on line). District #2, starting with the 5th line. 196-200 family is missing: Please add this information: Hervey W. Jameson, 40, male, farmer, born KY Martha Jameson, 37, female, born KY James Jameson, 13, male, born KY, attended school Mary J. Jameson, 8, female, born KY, attended school Joseph Jameson, 6, male, born KY, attended school George Jameson, 4, male, female, born KY Joann Jameson, 1, born KY All or some of the above is not shown on one microfilm record. The family right below is the Willis Galloway family; the one above is a continuation of a Montgomery family. I was alerted to this by a gentleman in British Columbia, Canada who is hunting for this Jameson family, believing it is his family. He is descended from James Jameson. He kept saying this Hervey & Martha were on the 1850 census - I couldn't find it. So he linked to the census and noted the statement about the missing lines. Here is what he provided: "My great great grandfather: [James] James Joseph Jameson on his marriage certificate in British Columbia, Canada in 1878 listed his parents as "Harvey & Martha Jameson" from Barren County Kentucky. Also this James who is believed to have arrived in BC circa 1860 was known all his life as "Kentucky Jim". Anyway I see in 1850 census a Hervey & Martha Jameson in Barren County with children one being James so I am thinking this must be the family. in 1850 would many people have lived in Barren County? [I answered] what is likelihood of this being his family?? I have a "find a grave" headstone for "Martha Jameson" in Elk City, Kansas died 1900 born 1814 which matches 1850 census quite closely and on this headstone it lists her predeceased husband as "Harvey Jameson" so i'm thinking this must be her. This James Joseph Jameson in the 1881 and 1891 Canadian Census records lists his heritage as Scottish." End Now - my question. Do any of you connect with this Jameson family? Any DNA testing? Whether Hervey died here is unknown yet; it appears he did predecease wife Martha who died in Kansas. I have a feeling, not yet proven, that the Barren Co Hervey/Harvey and Martha with son James is the correct one due to the information the gentleman has found. If any of you has information, would you please write me privately - or to the list, either one. Thanks much!
