GLASGOW - [photo]. Mr. Fred Serra, Jr., age 75, of Glasgow, Kentucky, formerly of Burkesville, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was born in Nassau County, New York on Wednesday, March 15, 1939, the son of the late Fred Serra, Sr. and Avis Wickham Serra of New York. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He was a Korean War and Vietnam War Veteran of the U. S. Army and U. S. Navy. He was a member of the Cumberland Lodge #413 F. and A. M. and a lifelong police officer. He was a member of the Military Police, a sheriff in Maryland and an officer in the surrounding areas of Burkesville, Glasgow and Cave City Police Departments, having served as an officer of the Glasgow Police Department since 1978 and attaining the rank of captain after twenty-five years of service. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Branham Serra of Glasgow, Kentucky, whom he married on Tuesday, March 19, 1974, two sisters, Arleen (Russ) ! Seymore of Florida and Audrey Weber of New York, three sons, Andy (Melinda) Brueggeman of Colorado, John Carter of Glasgow, Kentucky and Grady Jr. (Donita) Butler of Glasgow, Kentucky, two daughters, Tammy (Jeff) Kearns of Illinois and Menna Carter of Glasgow, Kentucky, seven grandchildren, Kayla Brasher, Kristen Kearns, Grace, Cora and Peyton Butler, John and Jacob Carter and one great-grandchild, Isaac Brasher. Fred's greatest joys in life were his children and grandchildren. Funeral Services were conducted on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Glasgow, Kentucky with Bro. Ricky Proffitt officiating. Memories and reflections were shared by his granddaughter, Kayla. Special music and singing provided by Libby Mullinix. Burial was in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery in Glasgow, Kentucky. Casket Bearers and Honorary Casket Bearers were members of the Barren County Sherriff's Department, the Cave City Police Department, Glasgow City Police Department and Bar! ren County EMS Services. The Casket Bearers were Chief Guy Turcotte, M ike Gibbon, James Duff, Kent Keen, James Duff, Terry Flatt and Mike Swift. The Honorary Casket Bearers were Tommy Garrett, David Denton, Bob Hunt, Jamie Casteel, Jeff Wright, Jimmy Smith and Daryl Smith. The Honor Guard from the Glasgow City Police Department performed the graveside and flag presentation services. Professional services provided by Norris-New Funeral Home of Burkesville, Kentucky.
