CAVE CITY - [Photo]. Leona Belle Zwakenberg, 90, Cave City, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Hart County Health Care, Horse Cave. She was born July 22, 1923 in Three Oaks, Michigan to the late Bentzley and Della Barns Stickle and was the widow of Garrit Zwakenberg, Sr. She was a member of the Cave City Baptist Church and the Jefferson Homemakers. Leona was a loving mother and homemaker. She proudly served her country in the Navy during World War II. Her longtime service to her church and her community touched many lives. Survivors include her children: Patricia Zwakenberg Wagner and her husband Walter, Niles, MI, Garrit Zwakenberg, Jr. and his wife JoeAnne, Cave City, Jerry Lee Zwakenberg and his wife Maria, Louisville, Cheryl Zwakenberg Grizzle and her husband Ed, Jonesborough, TN, Terry John Zwakenberg and his wife Rebecca, Houston, TX; fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Thelma Hurless, Seymour, IN and a brother, John Stickle, Marcellus, MI. She was preceded in death by a son, Herman Zwakenberg and a sister, Doris Stick. Funeral services with Joshua Grizzle officiating will be at 11 AM Monday at the Cave City Baptist Church with Military rites provided by DAV Chapter 20 at the Cave City Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.
