New York Times, New York, New York, Saturday, March 26, 1870, p. 8. "Christopher T. Cheek, a merchant from Glasgow, Ky., caused the arrest of Annie Ward, alias Mary Wilson, a well-known panel-house woman. He was robbed of a large sum of money at No. 1. Crosby-street by the usual process. When the woman was arraigned before Justice Scott she was ordered to be remanded for trial and the complainant be sent to the House of Detention. Mr. Cheek protested against this disposition of this person, and wished to send for Mr. A. T. Stewart to give bail for him. Finding it impossible to procure bail, he withdrew the charge and the girl was discharged."
