Name: Colonel James R Weaver, Retired Residence: Cary, NC Born: 16 May 1923 Glasgow KY Died: 15 Feb 2008 Raised at Roseville, educated at Roseville and Temple Hill High School. Upon graduation in 1942, he joined the U S Marines becoming a fighter pilot in three wars: WW II, Korea and Vietnam. His honors included: Legion of Merit with "V" and two stars, Distinguished Flying Cross with one star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with two stars and numeral 10, Korean Service Medal with two stars, Vietnam Service Medal with two stars, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal with Purple Heart. He also earned a Masters degree in engineering from the University of Maryland during his service. In recognition of Col Weaver and M/Sgt Bob Becker, the USS Intrepid Museum, now being renovated in the NYC Harbor, will display a replica of the F3D Skyight fighter flown by them from the USS Intrepid during action in Korea in January 1953. Also displayed will be a replica of the MiG15 which they shot down during support of a bombing run on Jan. 23, 1953. The! F3D Skynight will be emblazoned with the names of Col Weaver and Sgt Becker as pilot and radar observer. After retiring from the military, James moved to Cary, NC and managed the Raleigh-Durham International Airport for several years and then turned his attention to land development. He also received numerous civic awards, principally in the Rotary Club of Cary in which he served two terms as president and had 29 years of perfect attendance.
