Name: Sarah A Bowers [photo] Residence: Barren Co KY Born: 12 May1928 Barren Co KY Died: Saturday, 15 Mar 2008, Barren County Health Care center, age 79 Daughter of the late Roger C and Nola Miller Smith Married: 18 Mar 1948 to the late John R Bowers. Retired from State ICF Hospital where she served as the Volunteer Service Coordinator. Attended Poplar Log Church of Christ. Graduated from Temple Hill High School Class of 1946 and Indiana Business College Class of 1947. Mrs. Bowers was a member of bvarious civic organizations including Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club, the National Historical Society and Business & Professional Women's Club where she served as president. She was instrumental in spearheading the Roller Coaster Fair, the first Highland Games, The Kentucky Vicksburg Monument Association, the movement and restoration of the Freedom School House (Walter D Freedom Center at Freedom KY). She served as chairperson for the Bicentennial Celebration of Barren Co. Other involvements too numerous to mention of which she was a part because she loved her community and county.
