This Indenture made the 25th day of October 1841 between Achilles J. GATEWOOD and Frances his wife of the one part and Samuel D. HOWELL of the other part all of Barren County, Witnesseth that the said Gatewood for an in consideration of the sum of one hundred & fifty dollars to him in hand paid has granted bargained & sold & by these presents doth grant bargain & sell unto the said Howell all the right title and interest & claim which the said Gatewood has in and to a tract of land lying in said County on the Blue Spring creek which was deeded from Nimrod MANIFEE [note the name Lewis SMITH was originally written there and crossed out.] to said Howell and on which the said Howell now lives containing one hundred acres being part of MARSHALL's Military survey. To have & to hold said tract of land & its appurtenances unto said Howell & his heirs forever and the said Gatewood covenants & agrees unto said Howell that he will forever warrant & defend the said interest which he has in & to said tract of land against all persons claiming by through or under him and against any claims which Burwell LAWLESS & wife may have to said land or those claiming by through or under them.
