I made the mistake of posting a partial tree on ancestry that solved a 150 year old mystery, or brick wall in The Bailey's of Monroe County, Ky. Some jerk from who knows where, did not bother to contact me. Added a whole new family, that was completely wrong. I tried to remove their info., that had corrupted my tree. No way, only to leave comments. It has been a real pain, because the majority of people just copy and add your tree as the source, and b4 u know it, bad information is all over the net. > > Anyone who is a member of the Surname Bailey list, knows that I post a whole lot of Bailey research, whether it is my line or not. I share my information on that list. Wills, deeds , census records, transcribed documents taken from the North Carolina Archives in Raleigh. We asked for copies of every document on every Bailey spelled every way 1790 and all prior years. I also live fairly close to the best genealogy library in the Country( one of the best), in Independence, Mo. All of the Bailey research we do is transcribed and posted to the Surname list. If someone Googles a Bailey name, chances are somewhere on that search is research done by Mary Bailey, Karen Price, and myself, and posted by one of us. We three work together researching our Bailey line. We try to set up our posts so that if someone Copy and Pastes, it contains who did the research, and the all important sources. > > Good Luck in your research. I do not want this to sound boastful. It is not meant in that way. It is meant as a suggestion, and a Warning of your worst nightmare, of what does happen. > > > > > Jeanette Bailey.... > > > > Families are like fudge, mostly sweet, but with a few nuts... > > [email protected] > > > > > > From: [email protected] > > To: [email protected] > > Date: Wed, 20 Jul 2011 00:17:30 +0000 > > Subject: Re: [KYBARREN] Settle Gunsmith William Settle > > > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > > > Author: lynnsettle > > Surnames: > > Classification: queries > > > > Message Board URL: > > > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.barren/18625.3.2.1.1.2.2/mb.ashx > > > > Message Board Post: > > > > I have been asked to put my research on the web to share with all who are interested, so I have downloaded it to Ancestry.com under the tree title " Settle Rifles Family" the is about the main rifle makers in the Settle family, William who started, his son Felix and his two sons Willis and Simon. > > I am hopeful all can gain info from it and if you would like to contact me feel free [email protected], I hope I have given all the sources you will need to continue researching and hope if you find any new info you will share it with others including me. I have ordered more info from the papers of Simon Dewitt Settle who has done most of the research on the rifles and hopefully will be able to post it a later date, if you have one of the guns I hope you will share pictures of it.
