    3. FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 2, 2011) - The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) has launched a new database for storing and cataloging object collections which allows many KHS collections to be accessed online. The website is available at www.history.ky.gov/objects. One feature of PastPerfect, the database software, enables viewers to send feedback about artifacts to KHS. Some items have incomplete histories or are of unknown origin, and curators are looking forward to hearing from viewers who may have clues to unearthing the answers to these questions. Online visitors can search by keyword or catalog number, order copies of images, email pages to a friend or search random images just for fun. "This database brings us light-years beyond where we used to be. In the past, museums generally have been hesitant to share their catalogs online, worrying that people wouldn't come anymore," said KHS curator Bill Bright. "But that attitude has changed immensely. We are now making our collections available to a worldwide audience." Currently more than 700 artifacts are entered in the database and available for viewing online. KHS curators are entering new items every day and exporting completed files to the online system weekly. Items already online include the recent "Military Treasures" exhibition, much of the current "Great Revivals" exhibition at the Old State Capitol and all 110 of Paul Sawyier's works in KHS collections. This week, curators are focusing on cataloging Civil War uniforms.
