GLASGOW - Peggy Elaine Childers McDowell, 77, Glasgow, died Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at NHC Health Care in Glasgow. She was born on February 14, 1936, in Louisa, KY and was the daughter of George Lawrence Childers and Helen Marie Hinkle Childers. The family moved to Louisville during her early years and she graduated from Southern High School in 1954. She received her elementary education degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1958. Peggy married the Rev. Patrick Edward McDowell on August 10, 1958 and they made their first home in Nashville where she taught a first grade class. In later years she taught in the Owensboro, Glasgow, and Campbellsville independent school systems, including 13 years at E. B. Terry School on Columbia Avenue in Glasgow. Peggy completed her M.A. degree and her Rank One certification at Western Kentucky University. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. George R. Sotsky (George Ann). Surviving are her husband, Pat Ed, and five children: Mark Edward McDowell (Erin) Louisville; Eric Kendall McDowell, Glasgow; Everett Lawrence McDowell, Glasgow; Mrs. Lorri P. McComb (Tom) Gallatin, TN; and Mrs. Eileen W. Stockham (Jeff) Somerset. Seven grandchildren also survive: Alyona McDowell, Jonathan McComb, Ben McComb, Nathaniel McComb, Haley Stockham, Katherine Stockham, and J. D. Stockham. She is also survived by two brothers, Frank and Larry Childers, both of Louisville. Funeral services will be conducted at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home in Glasgow on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. on Friday and after 9:00 A.M. on Saturday. Alternative expressions of sympathy may be designated to the Kids' Hope Ministry at First United Methodist Church, 500 South Green Street, Glasgow, KY 42141. GLASGOW - Kenneth Beard 73 of Glasgow[photo on-line] died Tuesday, January 07, 2014 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY. He was born in Larue County the son of the late Lindsey Burlin Beard and Evelyn Allen Bennett of Elizabethtown who survives. Kenneth was an engineer with the Mallory Corp. in Glasgow. He had been a member of the Bethel Baptist, Glasgow Baptist and Immanuel Baptist churches. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife Jane McInteer Beard; 3 children Andy Beard of Dallas, TX, Jeff Beard (Hilary White) of Bethpage, TN and Robin Creek (Brian) of Columbus, OH; 9 grandchildren Alyssa Beard; Zeke, Rees and Gage Carnahan; Riley, Reagan and Jack Beard; Griffin and Piper Creek; 3 brothers Lindsey Beard Jr. of Campbellsville, Buster Beard and Michael Beard of Hodgenville; 3 sisters Betty Richards of Hodgenville, Bonnie Cunniff of Florida and Marsha Parr of Elizabethtown and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Charles Anthony Beard. Ken was married to Jane for forty-eight happy years. He was a quiet soul who was endlessly curious about how things worked. GLASGOW - Annie Kathryn Rodgers, 97, Glasgow,[photo] passed away on Friday, January 03, 2014, at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. A native of Metcalfe County, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Betsy Lamburth Dilley. Mrs. Rodgers was a Registered Nurse, having trained at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, later moving to Lynch, KY, and then to Paducah, where she worked for Atlas Powder Company. It was there she met Bill Rodgers, whom she married on December 28, 1945. A short while later, they moved back to Glasgow where she began working at T. J. Samson Community Hospital as a Registered Nurse and continued for 39 years; 33 of which she was Director of Nursing. Mrs. Rodgers was also very active in community and civic organizations. She was a member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star; a member of the White Shrine; a charter member of the Glasgow B & PW Club; Member and Past President of the Glasgow Garden Club; a member of the Edmund Rogers Chapter DAR; a founding member of the Samsonites, of which she continued to be active; and an avid researcher of family genealogy. Survivors include one son: Bill Rodgers and wife Judy of Fernardina Beach, FL; two grandchildren: Todd Rodgers and wife Lisa of Winterville, GA, and Amy Scurria and husband Mark of Chapel Hill, NC; four great-grandchildren: Alex, Will, Isabella, and Caitlin; several nieces and nephews including one special niece, Frances Royse. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Rodgers, two brothers, and one sister. CAVE CITY - Jerry Pulley, 66, of Cave City, [photo] passed away at his home Saturday, December 28, 2013, with his loving family surrounding him. The Owensboro native was in the restaurant business most of his life having served as manager of the old Kountry Kitchen and Jerry's Restaurant in Cave City and the Caveland Golf Club Restaurant. He was also a routeman for Tom's Snacks, an employee of Cave City Comfort Inn and Suites, a former member of the Cave City Fire Department, a member of the Bearwallow Masonic Lodge # 231 F & AM and a member of the Cave City United Methodist Church. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Edith Wells Pulley and a daughter, Melinda Diane Pulley. Survivors include: His wife, Wanda Pulley, of Cave City Four sons: Jeremy Pulley and wife, Shannon, of Brownsville; Jeff Reece and wife, Jennie, of Glasgow; Scott Reece and wife, Kim, of Munfordville and Greg Reece and wife, Christi, of Cave City Grandchildren: Cade, Ivan, Hadlie, Samantha, Savannah, Rodney and wife, Bethany Great-grandchildren: Colton, Matthew and Jorgia Sister: Alisa Pulley, of Glasgow. Brother: William Pulley and wife, Tammy, of Glasgow Several nieces and nephews Funeral Sevices will be conducted Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 2PM in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home with burial to follow in Cave City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, December 30, 2013 from 11AM - 8PM in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home and after 9AM Tuesday until service time. There will a public Masonic Service at the funeral home on Monday evening at 7PM. The Indiana native was born on November 13th, 1956 to the late Roger Poynter and Betty Gossett Poynter, Cave City, who survives him. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hans Poynter, Kansas; four daughters, Hattie Poynter and Donna Carrera, both of Cave City, Tammy Poynter and Crystal Poynter, both of Kansas; a sister, Karen Wood, Cave City and seven grandchildren. GLASGOW - Gene Lynn 84 of Glasgow, died Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at T. J. Samson Community Hospital. He was the son of the late Lacy and Ellie Sears Smith Lynn. Gene was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a retiree of Ford Motor Co. in Livonia, MI since 1983. He was a devoted and loving family man and loved the outdoors, including fishing and gardening. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Fant Lynn; two daughters Julia Hura and husband Larry of Inkster, MI and Barbara Masterton and husband Dennis of Wayne, MI; three grandchildren Jarrod Hura, Corinna Johnson and husband Jim, and Jaime Hura; five great-grandchildren Zachary Johnson, Kiera Hura, Jackson Johnson, Olivia Johnson and Braelyn Hura; two sisters Wynona (Kenneth) Young and Marianna (Mike) Harlow and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers Charles and George Smith and three sisters Geneva Jones, Freda Graven and Rossie Patterson. He will be greatly missed and remembered always with our love.
