Due to the loss of all my e-mail and links, I need your help!!! Would the following people send me an email at your convenience at my address? Daine and/or Harrison Nancy Richey Ray Green (and I need the link to the photographs of stones in Barren Co, etal) Bill Morris and ... anyone with whom I correspond regularly!! If you were waiting for a response from me on look-ups, research, whatever, please write me. My external hard drive with 25 years worth of research, files, tips, etc. is dead. Either I transferred a virus to it when I moved all my files to it or it had just given its best. So I am really starting a lot from scratch. For some reason also, when I re-loaded my e-mail program (an old Eudora that I really like), it will no longer let me put on a signature line. Yuck!!! Thanks so much!!! While in Frankfort, KY last week at the KY Department of Libraries and Archives (KDLA) I had time to look through a lot of records. This is a marvelous institution with a fabulous staff where is housed many of the original records from all the Kentucky counties. They also have a nice library which includes books not found in other locations. One of the records I found was the "Index of Confederate Pension Applications" compiled by Alicia Simpson, Archivist, 1978 and 1988. The following will show the name of the Confederate soldier, the date the pension request was received and the application #. If the soldier was deceased, the wife's name will be shown with the husband's name in parenthesis. The maiden name of the wife is also shown. I was trying to send out an e-mail to you all and it disappeared. If you got a start of a post from me - ignore it - I give up on using this laptop and a web based e-mail program I'm not used to. I was saying that while my computer is in the shop and my records unavailable, I just spent 3 days in Frankfort, KY researching at the KY Department of Libraries & Archives (KDLA) and the KY Historical Society. If you ever get a chance to go to the KDLA, you're in for a treat. This is the agency responsible for caring for all the old original records from all the counties in KY, primarily on microfilm. Researchers can call for the original documents such as old Circuit Court records, etc. The staff there is fantastic! They also have a library and I spent a lot of time going through books where I found some goodies on Barren Co and the other counties on this list. When I get my computer back, I'll be sharing. The KY Historical Society is in beautiful facilities and have thousands of books and vertical files, not only for KY but other states also. So, hang in with me a while longer until I find out the status of my computer! Sandi

I've given up trying to work with my computer in a patched-up condition. I'm unable to post to three of my lists entirely. So - I'm taking my computer to be re-formatted this Friday before 5. I won't be picking it up until either late next Wednesday or early Thursday morning. I'm currently attempting to back up a LOT of files to make the formatting go quicker - it's a big system. Then, as you know, I have to re-install a lot of software programs (hunting for the cd's!) So, I won't be posting likely from this Friday until next Friday. I can use my laptop in a limited format for emergency e-mail. Thanks much and enjoy the break! I still have some critical problems with my system which is keeping me from doing things I need to do! If you are on the KYBIOGRAPHIES, KYRESEARCH, KENTUCKY-MEMORIES or KENTUCKY-LEGENDS list - I can't post. It's a complicated matter but since I'm operating under two different accounts - I can't get something from one account to the other. I understand it but can't explain it easily. I can post to these two lists as I'm typing them right here on the e-mail, not copying them from a Word document. So bear with me please until I get this system cleaned out! One of the best protections against all sorts of malware is to never run your Windows computer in the default user mode. ALWAYS create a new user with no admin privileges. Use that user for all your work. On 03/24/2014 10:25 AM, Sandra K. Gorin wrote: > My computer tech just left. I am up but on a patched together system > sadly. My computer tech just left. I am up but on a patched together system sadly. It was a virus that hit yesterday, making its way through several layers of virus program protection. It destroyed a lot of my system, including my restore point, favorites and wouldn't allow me access to any of my folders/files. To get me up and running for now, he had to create a new account - so I am running on two accounts. On one is my e-mail and my virtual XP files. (Note, I do not go to the internet on the XP side, I have three programs I must use that will not run on Windows 7, none cloud based). For my other files - Word, etc. etc. I have to use the new account. So, I physically have to log in on one side to check e-mail; log out and log in on the other account to use my word documents, etc. etc. All of which takes times. As soon as I can afford it - I need to take my system in to him and have him dump thousands of files and then reformat my entire system. This would not be cheap due to amount of things I have on my system. So, I'm hoping to limp along for now and see if it holds together. I'm skipping my posts for today, just have a lot to do to get some things "back to normal" on the computer so I can figure out where to go and when! Thanks for your patience!
