He was retired owner/operator of Davis and Sons produce for many years and a member of the Trinity Church of the Nazarene. He is survived by five children: Tim Davis "Sherri", Dwayne Davis "Tonja" all of Glasgow, Shelia Forrest "Doug" of Cave City, Twona Gaunt "Barry", and Kim Bowles "Steven" both of Bowling Green; eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two brothers: Rondal Davis of Edmonton and Kenneth Davis of Glasgow; two sisters: Lillian "Lynn" West of Indianapolis, Indiana and Mary Helen "Marilyn" Loscombe of Bowling Green; several nieces and nephews also survive. She was born July 22, 1923 in Three Oaks, Michigan to the late Bentzley and Della Barns Stickle and was the widow of Garrit Zwakenberg, Sr. She was a member of the Cave City Baptist Church and the Jefferson Homemakers. Leona was a loving mother and homemaker. She proudly served her country in the Navy during World War II. Her longtime service to her church and her community touched many lives. Dr. Erwin was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on March 10, 1923 to the late Thomas and Edna Erwin. Also predeceased are his sons John and Ray Erwin, a brother Thomas A. Erwin, Jr. and sister Myrtie Mae Erwin McNeil. Dr. Erwin served three years in the United States Army Signal Corp in WWII. Following his military service, Dr. Erwin graduated from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY and received an honorary Doctorate of Theology from Bethel Baptist College, Hopkinsville, KY. He has served as Senior Pastor in Owensboro, Greenville and Glasgow, Kentucky. He also served in McMinnville, TN. He was named Pastor Emeritus at Glasgow Baptist Church in Glasgow, KY. He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Wallace Erwin, and they recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. He is also survived by his brother John M. PORTLAND, IN - [Photo] Frances Taylor, age 81, a resident of Portland, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014 at her daughter's home in Portland. She was a former resident of Ridgeville, Indiana. Frances was born on February 7, 1933, in Glasgow, Kentucky, the daughter of Robert and Pauline (Francis) Wilson. She graduated from Governor I.P. Gray High School in 1950. She attended Calvary United Methodist Church in Ridgeville and was a member of the Ridgeville American Legion Auxiliary. Frances worked as a cook for the Jay County Hospital, Elks Lodge in Portland and Meinerdings Restaurant in Fort Recovery. She also worked for CTS in Berne. Frances married Harold "Tuney" Taylor on April 5, 1952 and he passed away on October 1, 2012. Survivors include: 2 sons: Mark Taylor (wife Janet) - Springfield, TN Bob Taylor (wife Karen) - Greenville, Ohio 2 daughters: Paula Barron (husband Fred) - Portland, Indiana Pat Bricker (husband Fred) - Portland, Indiana 5 brothers: Dee Wilson (wife Nancy) - Lexington, Kentucky Kenneth Wilson - Glasgow, Kentucky Eugene Wilson (wife Kathy) - Glasgow, Kentucky Collie Wilson (wife Sugar) - Cave City, Kentucky Odell Wilson (wife Betty) - Glasgow, Kentucky 1 sister: Betty Sue Coffee (husband Richie) - Edmonton, Kentucky 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren Visitation for Frances Taylor will be held on Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland. Pastor Sylvia Stong will officiate and burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery in Portland. Memorials may be directed towards the Jay County Cancer Society. CAVE CITY - [Photo]. Mitchell Hare age 79 of Cave City passed away Monday March 31, 2014 at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow. He was a native of Barren County, Kentucky , a lifelong Farmer , a United States Army Veteran and a member of the South Green Street Church of Christ in Glasgow. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Hare and Ellie Craighead Hare, two brothers, W.T. Hare and Elvin R. Hare and a sister Juanita Wingfield. Mitchell is survived by his wife Covella Garmon Hare of Cave City, two nephews, Gary Hare and Tim Wingfield, two nieces, Gwen Williams and Brenda McGown, one brother-in-law, Chester Wingfield and several other nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday April 3, 2014 in the Chapel of Winn Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Hiseville Cemetery. GLASGOW - [Photo]. Mary A. Christy 79 of Glasgow died Sunday March 30, 2014 at the NHC Healthcare Facility in Glasgow. She was born in Spring Hills, TN the daughter of the late Sam Clarkston and Willie Estes Clarkston. Mrs. Christy worked for many years as a waitress at the Watermill Restaurant in Cave City and was of the Baptist Faith. Survivors include 3 sons Tony Christy (wife Christy) of Cave City, Milton Christy (wife Peggy) of Park City and Roger Christy (wife Diane) of Bardstown; 1 daughter Sue Chapman of Hiseville; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; 3 sisters Mable Jones of Cave City, Christine Dilley of Glasgow and Carolyn Esters of Cave City; 1 brother Marvin Clarkston (wife Ruddie) of Glasgow. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband James O. Christy; 2 sisters Joyce Moulder & Opal Holley; 1 brother Levi Clarkston and a brother that was stillborn; 1 grandson Cody Christy and 1 son-in-law Paul Chapman. GLASGOW - Arlene "Nana" Jackman 67 of Glasgow died Monday, March 24, 2014 at her home. Born in Glasgow she was the daughter of the late Marvin Furlong and Virginia Furlong Green. Arlene was retired from Bailey-Gibson Buick, GMC and was also a former employee for the office of the Barren County Court Clerk. She was a member of Grider Memorial Baptist Church. GOODLETTSVILLE, TN - Charles Lee Blanton, 76, of Goodletsville, TN, formerly of Glasgow, KY, passed away Monday, March 24, 2014 in Nashville, TN. The Edmonson County native was born February 17, 1938 , the son of the late Aubrey "Ted" Blanton and the late Kathleen Cooke Blanton. He was a retired risk manager for Shoney's Corp and a bus driver for Unity Program , a little league coach, loved working with children and was very active in the Glasgow community. He was a member of Fairview United Baptist Church, Brownsville, KY. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Lindsey Blanton of Goodlettsville, TN; two sons, Charles Ronald Blanton (Susan) of Hendersonville, TN and Lee Blanton of Nashville, TN; three grandchildren, Charles David Blanton, Samuel Jacob Blanton and James Patrick Blanton. GLASGOW - Noel Evaleen Peers, age 80, of Glasgow, Kentucky, died March 23, 2014, at her home. She was born November 6, 1933, in Glasgow, Kentucky, to the late Earl and Mary Whitlow Peers. She had retired from T. J. Samson Hospital and was of the Methodist faith. She is survived by two nephews, David (Sherry) and Danny Peers both of the Atlanta, Ga. area; great nieces and nephews, Whitney, Jacob and Jeremy Peers and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Morris Peers and life long friend of 65 years Bill Oliver.
