Second try .... Good morning - another Monday has sneaked up on us. I don't know yet what I'm going to post on Tuesday's, so it will be a surprise to all of us! The remodeling is done except for the pick-up of what's left over ... and I'm on the run today getting ready for the seminar. Charles has posted the puzzler for the week and thanks again for all your guesses for last week's puzzler; I had a pretty decent amount of guessers and some interesting answers. Let's see how you do on this one. To take a guess, click on gensoup in my signature line. Please be sure to ener your email address, no one sees it but me, but if there's no address enered, I can't reply to you. I do answer you all even tho some bounce back to me as an unknown address periodically. There is a file on a Glass family in the Metcalfe County (Edmonton, Ky Library ) that may be of help to you. If you can cloacae someone there to look into it. Jan ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
For your information as I've mentioned slightly in passing before. Next Saturday (Sept 15th) I will be presenting a seminar entitled "Genealogy 101 - Finding Your Roots and Branches" at the Mary Wood Weldon Library, 107 W College Street in Glasgow. This is going to be a "hands on" seminar. >From 9:30-10:45ish I will be going thru the basics of doing genealogy with a presentation of slides and oration. I'll be covering how to get started, equipment needed, playing detective, census records, name spelling variations, Bible records, newspaper morgues, County Clerk's holdings, marriage records, wills, deeds, book citations and the internet. At 11 am, we will be meeting for 1/2 hour to an hour at the County Clerk's office on Main Street (center of the block across from the courthouse) for a hands-on look at what is available there for the researcher. This will include looking at the old deeds, tracing some deeds, how to use the index books, the marriages, wills, etc. After a lunch break from 12:30-1:30, we will be meeting at the Cultural Center at 200 Water Street (KY Pants Building) for a tour of their genealogical facilities and records there. I will finish my presentation at the Cultural Center and we will adjourn at 1:30 from this location. If you are in the area and can join us, please do. Pre-registration is not necessary and it's open to the public. This is what I'm working on this week that's keeping me quiet!!! Yesterday I went to the Culture Center in Glasgow. What wonderful people and a wonderful resource! I wasa ride along with a friend that was working. During my short time there I found some great info. I have been looking for information concerning my gg grandfather James Willis Glass and my ggrandmother Mary E Collins Glass. What I found was a genealogy research for one of James' sons, in the research it stated that James Willis's father was James Henry and his father was Benjamin F. Also I found that James and Mary E were married in Metcalfe County on Aug. 29, 1871 and that W.F. Collins paid the bond. B.J. ferrell as did Oliver John Harbison. Mary E was only sixteen so I am sure that her parents had to give permission. Questions: Does anyone have any further info on these people and how can I obtain the official records from Metcalfe County to find the parents full name? Thanks, Jennefer
Tho we research in KY, many of our families moved to Chicago and Cook Co IL for jobs years ago. Of course, most of the oldest Cook Co records were destroyed by the Chicago fire, but if you had family there, you might be interested in this article from the Chicago Tribune. 75 years is not that far back ... but this might help! http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/west/chi-digital07sep07,0,1385623.s tory Sandi SCKY Archives: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index?list=south-central-kentucky Barren Co Archives: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index?list=kybarren Sandi's Genealogical Puzzlers: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gensoup/gorin/puz.html GGP: http://ggpublishing.tripod.com/

Just a quick note on a Friday morning. I will not be answering any emails for a few days tho I will be here. The remodeling continues and there is light at the end of the tunnel of its completion. It has been quite difficult for the fellow working on the house due to the high temps and humidity. I also thought I had made it through the summer without getting poison ivy but alas, I failed. While cleaning out some garden areas in the evenings, I got into something and am breaking out on the face and neck. You old-timers on the list know how I suffer from this and that I can't take the shots. It feels really groovy in the heat! Saturday after this, I will be puting on a 4-hour seminar at the Mary Wood Weldon library here in Glasgow on Genealogy 101 and have to kick into high gear getting my program ready .... if I don't continue sprouting more ivy breakouts - could be fun! So I am going to concentrate for the majority of next week on getting everything organized. I will continue my daily posts and then disappear. So, if I ignore you, please hang in there! I will be starting a new series on Tuesdays since the James Bosley Carter series is ended; I haven't decided yet which direction I'm going yet! Have a great weekend and I'll see you Monday! I am doing research for someone so I don't know a LOT about them. The family was told that Mary was not married when she had him and she took him to an orphans home in Louisville, KY and went back to get him a year later. He remembered a man coming to see him at home when he was a little boy and he took his hand and squeesed it so hard it hurt. He said he always remembered that and thought he was his real father. On the death cert. he named Fleming Parrish as his dad but I am thinking it was because he didn't know who his real dad was.
