Francis Coleman was born in VA, and married Nancy "Settie" Carpenter in Barren Co. KY, on 4 Jan 1821. It has been told that Francis was robbed and murdered in Lucas KY, which is in Barren Co. KY. I have found no evidence of this robbery and murder. He was one of the first members of Peters Creek Baptist Church. His will was written 28 Aug 1829, and probated in Apr 1831, in Barren Co. He does not list his children in his will, only his wife, and refers to his children as "all my children and their heirs". I know only of two children: William, born 16 Jan 1825, married Lucy Marr and Mary Shields; and Pamelia who married Allen Kinslow. Would like to find evidence of this so-called robbery and murder. Would also like to know all his children, and his parents. Thanks for any info you can provide. Christy Bennett thomasandchristy@yahoo.com --------------------------------- Moody friends. OK - so I can't get all my thoughts together in one email! On the puzzler - I am NOT looking for MANSE either. A different term that we don't hear much anymore. Also, on the 27th (Thursday evening) at 7pm, our historical society will be welcoming Joy Lyons of Park City as speaker. Joy has been a Park Ranger at Mammoth Cave for 28 years (and she must have started at age 2!), author of "Mammoth Cave: The Story Behind the Scenery" in 1991 and "Making Their Mark: The Signature of Slavery at Mammoth Cave" in 2006. The latter book received the 2006 Award of Merit from the KY Historicl Society and another award to come later this year. She is an engaging and knowledgeable gal and will be talking about the restoration of Bell's Tavern in Park City. Many of you know that this is an extremely historical site during the early days of Barren Co as a stopping point for tourists going to Mammoth Cave and many historically famous people stayed there. Joy has spearheaded for many years saving this beautiful structure and cleaning out the Bell Cemetery, etc. She is married to the mayor of Park City and has 2 daughters. I think you will enjoy her presentation. There is no charge for the meetings, guests are always welcome and there's even free parking! I think I've got everything reported now! Back to my morning coffee! Most of you who have been on these lists for a long time know that I am not fond of what they call "roll calls" - where everyone on the list sends in the names of the people they are looking for. On a large list it can be maddening.HOWEVER ... there are times when I do all the posting and don't see many queries on the list. SO ..... one time offer over the next few weeks. Here's what we're going to do. For THIS week (17 Sept thru the 23rd) these lists are open to a modified roll call. Here's how it'll work: 1 - Pick your most important brick wall individual whose name begins with A, B or C. Provide the following information. 1. Name of individual 2. County on this list you think he/she resided (i.e., Barren Monroe, Metcalfe, Hart, Edmonson, Warren or Cumberland ... no other counties.) 3. Approximate time frame 4. What exactly you are looking for. You can list a marriage or children - anything pertinent to your search. 2 - One query only per person. You may post to the list and use the subject line: Brickwall - (name). If you have information that you can provide an individual, you may respond to the list and/or privately. So, think of your most important mystery ancestor whose last name begins with A, B or C and lived in the counties served by this list. Remember that some of you are on the SCKY list and some on KYBarren ... and a few on both. We'll see how this goes! Also, I would like to wish a belated birthday wish to one of our KYBARREN members - Martha Powell Harrison - who has contributed so much to saving the records of Barren Co and who has been a friend for so many years (as well as cemetery hunting buddy). Happy Birthday Martha from all of us who have benefited from your years of work on Barren Co!
