I had a pleasant - almost - weekend - by going over to Bengal KY and celebrating the 200th anniversary of Friendship Baptist Church where my son-in-law is pastor. A wonderful time until I came home and my little dash lights started flashing at me. The car was overheating but not steaming and there are NO service stations between there and home. (I take the backroads from Green to Hart to Metcalfe to Barren Co). I threw the heater on full blast (being a mechanic's dau), limped in and threw water in the reservoir. I just returned from the garage - did no damage BUT they say I have leaks all around the intake valves and need a $600 replacement of parts (plus labor of course). So, I am not doing handstands this morning and am running behind schedule. Must be fixed soon, but am going to try to get a 2nd opinion! So - let me catch up! Charles has posted the answer to last week's puzzler; had a few guesses, most were correct and I thank you. I'm needing some better response or will put the puzzlers back on hiatus again. Charles has also posted my puzzler this week; you'll have to dig for this one but the information is available on line if you hunt! This week, I'm asking for your brickwalls for those whose surname begins with K through N. If you have problems with someone who was in one of the counties covered by these lists, send it to the list. Please put BRICKWALL in the subject line and the name (possibly the county if you know). I hope this is helping .... we all have our illusive ancestors!!! I guess I didn't pay close enough attention to see we were going in alphabetical order. So now I'm re-posting at the right time. My brick wall is Nathan MARTIN. He was born in KY in 1801 according to Texas County, Missouri census records for 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880. What leads me to Barren county is a marriage bond that was found in the book Marriage Records of Barren County KY 1799-1849 By Martha Powell Reneau 1984 page 170 Martin, Nathan to Ann MAGINNIS, March 11, 1827, Sur; James Martin. Md. March 15, 1827 by John H Baker I can't prove this is "my" Nathan, but the birthdates of his children who all came to Missouri with him seem to fall into place with this His children were: Margaret Jane b 1829 William J. b. 1831 (my 3GGrandfather) Phebe b. 1833 Lewis b. abt 1835 Susan b. 1838 Another researcher told me he once found a grave of an Ann Martin and a James Martin in the same cemetery and that Ann's death date wasn't long after the birth year of Susan. He thought it might have been Foster Cemetery in Warren County. I would like to be able to prove this is the right marriage and then from there discover Nathan's parentage and their origins. I would also love to find the cemetery in which these Martin graves are located. He had a brother Daniel McHenry birth date unknown who married Elizabeth (Betsy) Jones in 1802 in Barren County. The brothers purchased land many times from 1794 through 1807 in Warren & Barren Counties. William was in Henderson County in 1809 and the brothers moved to IL in 1810. Any help would be appreciated as we have been at this wall for several years.
