For those of you who heard about our storms last night; there appears to be a lot of damage but no injuries. It was possibly a micro-burst that hit our area, centered primarily along the by-pass of 31E area, out to Barren Co High and Middle Schools, South Fork Road. Hardest hit was our Electric Plant Board .. our power, cable, internet and (to many of us) phone company. Part of the roof was blown off and 4 utility poles went down. We were off-line for a couple of hours but the rest of the services stayed up. Many trees down in the area. Again, no injuries but it was really a surprise when at 4 pm, 73 degrees, the storm hit! Today is the day to get out and vote and I hope you all do! Good morning - I think! As we adjust to the passing of daylight savings time (for most of you!), it's time to get the brain in gear again. The book fair in Greensburg was a lot of fun as always, and I was delighted to get to meet some of you from the lists! After speaking at Mammoth Cave Friday night and the book fair Saturday, I'm running on 1/2 speed and sadly, after spending massive money on the repair of my car 3 weeks ago .... the same thing happened again and the car goes back to the shop Thursday morning. Charles has posted the puzzler for the week and I'm hoping you'll take a look at the question and try to figure out the answer. Click on the URL in my signature line called gen-soup to go to the website where the question is posted. If you live close to Glasgow; I'll be speaking again at the Mary Wood Weldon Library this Saturday. There will be a 2 hour session in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Pre-registration is recommended; their phone # is 270-651-2824 and they are located at 107 W College St. There is no charge. This will be an intermediate class; in the morning I'll be taking a very in-depth look at reading the old handwriting, spelling of the old names, etc. In the afternoon, a very detailed look at the census records i.e., what was included, when they were turned in, why people who were dead were often shown and babies not shown, etc.! Have a great week gang! Martha, Have you found this Davis "Holder" on any census records? Is he tied in any way to the Davis Holder who married Augustine Berry's daughter Nancy? They also had a son Davis Holder (1840-1913) but he is pretty well documented. Solveig Berry ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

----- Original Message ----- From: Martha P Harrison To: kybarren-l@rootsweb.com Cc: soky@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, November 01, 2007 12:31 PM Subject: Brickwall - Woods, Carver, Holder My brickwall used three names - Woods, Carver and Holder. When he married in Sumner Co., Tenn., he was Davis Holder. When he was tried for the murder of my great-grandfather's brother, he was Davis Carver alias Woods. At that time he had a small daughter, Ethel. In her lifetime she used Carver, Woods, and Morris as her maiden names, but never Holder. Davis escaped from the penitentary and returned to Barren Co. long enough to father a son in 1890. I haven't found a divorce for him, but his wife was remarried twice. When Ethel was a child, he, a woman and two little girls came to where she and her mother were staying. It was at night and she was under the impression they were traveling. Several years later, when she was in her 60's (1940ish) Ethel received several letters from two ladies who claimed to be her sisters, but she didn't believe them. Letters got destroyed, names forgotten and now no one remembers anything. Does this sound familiar to any of you? Would love to find Davis's new family. He was said to have changed his name and moved to another county (possibly Green) and remarried and raised family of several girls.

As you can tell, rootsweb is now purring again. As I mentioned, they were hit with a massive spam which goofed everything up for a time. As they get back to normal posting, you might receive a few duplicate postings. Also please note that sometimes, rarely, you will receive what it appears is a message from rootsweb that is spam. Some sweet little people, who have nothing to do in their spare time, like to forge addresses. I get them frequently from major companies with whom I have no dealings. If you receive a msg that looks like it came from rootsweb but is obviously a forged from address or with a msg that has nothing to do with genealogy - just pitch it. Each day a lot of spam is sent out. Rootsweb takes care of most of it and some comes to the administrator of the list. We have to go to a special web site and approve or discard msgs where the robot spam program is not sure if it's legit or not. Spammers get awfully tricky in their subject lines to make it harder for the spam filters to catch everything. We simply discard the msg(s) and wait for the next batch. I try to be careful to check the correct box and not accidentally send it thru to the list! I'll see you tomorrow with Hart Co records. Keep those guesses coming on the genealogy puzzler! He farmed on "Skegg's Creek" and turned the farm over to R(obert) Price Moran. Price P. Moran was married to Elizabeth Mansfield, who died in 1866.
