    1. [KYBARREN] WHAT HAPPENED TO THE WIFE?
    2. Sandi Gorin
    3. Have you ever lost a female ancestor? You know she was married and that her spouse had died. Then she disappears from the records. Some possibilities: 1 - She was missed in the records. 2 - She moved out of the area and is living with relatives in another location or 3 - She remarried. Many widows did not remain that way very long, especially if they had children. Widowers were also quick to remarry if they were left with children and needed a woman to do the cooking, clean the cabin and take care of his young 'ens. If a widow remarried, she might have re-located or be hiding right under your nose. Did you ever consider that she did re-marry and at her death was buried by her first husband rather than her second husband? It happened! Or did you ever come upon records where a man is buried and there are two or more unidentified females buried in close proximity? Could one be his first wife and the other a second wife? Sandi

There were two other Lanes (Adran & Robert) in that same census. They were on the same page and I'm attaching that one also. There was a note on Robert Lane's census from a contributor named Marlin Criddle dated 14 Jun 2006, "This is Robert Layne (sic) b.c. 1778 in Johnson County, TN. He died 27 Sep 1826 in Barren County, Kentucky." Hope this fills in a few blanks. I am not related. 1. [KYBARREN] IN CLOSING MONDAY, 2 MAY 2011
    2. Sandi Gorin
    3. I'm going to hold off a little longer before starting the puzzlers again; much to do in the next few weeks. But I wanted to share this little tip with you. Have you ever wondered why, when a husband sold property and you know he is married, but there is no acknowledgement by his wife. You know that the wife had to be interrogated separately and apart from her husband to be sure that it was satisfactory to her as it would involve her dower interest in the estate at his death. If there is no notation or signature by the wife, it could mean that she was deceased. If suddenly a new female name appears though, it could indicate that the first wife was deceased and he had remarried. Watch out for nicknames and diminutives however. Sarah could be shown as Sally; Polly for Mary, etc. Sandi Sandi's Puzzlers: http://www.gensoup.org/gorinpuzzles/index.php
