Again this dumb company got through the rootsweb filters and posted another "innocent" ad about this book company. Just ignore it - unless it comes from me, it's spam. Sorry - Sandi
Oh dear, When I saw that title I am afraid that I thought something else. Of course it wasn't John that would have been late. . I just thought that he might be going to get a little surprize. Sorry, Velma
If you're in Glasgow next Thursday evening (23rd), I'd like to invite you to stop by the South Central KY Cultural Center (200 Water Street) for the meeting of the SCKY Historical & Genealogical Society meeting. The meeting begins at 7, no charge for attendance and free parking. I am going to be speaking at this meeting on "Its All About YOU". It's really the first time in 21 years as a member and as retiring program chair that I've put on a program and I hope it will be an enjoyable one. Sort of historical, sort of genealogical; I'll be taking a look at recording your story, it's all about you. I'll be discussing why we should record our lives, ways we can record and providing a list of some of the things you can include on your story. In future years, your family will be grateful you did your family tree, but wouldn't it be a lot nicer if they also could read about you and learn how we lived? A little confusing word - late. When you see it in the older records, what did it mean? Well, it could have meant two things of course. Late was used to denote that someone used to live there but doesn't anymore: "John Smith, late of Podunk County ...." Or - it can mean the individual was deceased. "John Smith, late of Podunk County ..." You might assume that dear John had gone to join his ancestors in that family tree in the sky, when all it meant was that he formerly lived there. One has to be careful not to jump to conclusions that John has deceased - he might have pulled up stakes and moved elsewhere. Only more searching will reveal what happened!
