Little is known about this church. It was a Methodist Church located between Freedom and Eoile in the southern section of Barren County. The following is found on the fly leaf of the original church record: "Class Book for Maury's Chapel; Glasgow Circuit, Louisville Conference for the year 1855 and 56." [Note: I do not have this book and have no knowledge of where it is.] "Observe the Sabbath day to keep it holy." "Remember the first day preceeding each Quarterly Meeting as a day of fasting and prayer, for the peace and prosperity of Zion - and for us your servants for Christ's sake." /s/ Robert FISK, P. Why it is important? First – it will make us realize that we have counted for something; that we have made a contribution to this world. Second – it will let our descendants or family look back at us with different eyes in the later years when they read what we wrote. They will likely understand us better and see why we did what we did – for good or bad. I am going to pass out a worksheet. It’s only a guide line to get your started. You can likely think of more things. If you are not a writer, just fill in the blanks! But, I am trusting that you can write it more like a story, incorporating the points I’ve listed – and adding more to it. You can type it, handwrite it, dictate it into a tape recorder. Put it away in a safe way, such as with your important papers. Mark what it is so it won’t be discarded. Some day, someone will pick up those papers, or listen to the tape and think “my goodness, did my Mom do that? Did my father work there? Did they dress like that? And, they’ll love it! "Whereas, there is a misunderstanding between us as to the location of the dividing lines between our respective farms, that is to say, between the tract of land conveyed to Mrs. Ella GILLOCK by J. W. HENDERSON & wife by deed dated Dec. 20, 1902 and the tract of land assigned to J. E. MOORE by Geo. R. DEVASHER wife of recent date and for the purpose of having said boundary lines located, we have this day selected, as arbitrators, to locate said boundary lines, J. F. MUTER, J. S. REDFORD and J. M. RENFRO, and hereby agree and bind ourselves to abide by the decision of said arbitrators and have the decisions of said arbitrators and this agreement recorded. Thence N59W45 1/2 poles (call 43 1/4 poles) to a stone on the west side of the branch, thence N19W 1 1/2 poles to a stone near a gate. Said Moore is to have and keep all the new fence recently built - by said Moore that is included on the Gillock side of said boundary as located by us, provided, however, that the said Moore moves said fence off the Gillock side within one month from this date and in the event said Moore fails to move said fence within said time Mrs. Gillock aforesaid is to keep said fence and have the right to move the same and? said Gillock in same time and condition Moore all for fence that is on said Moore's side. Good evening, I'm searching for a death date for Nathaniel Wheeler. Born 1781 to Mark Wheeler and Frances Hutson(Hudson). Married Nancy Tisdale 1801. Supposedly died in Barren County, KY @ 1850. Seeking same information on death of wife Nancy Wheeler. Supposedly died @ 1839 in Barren County, KY. Any help to establish death dates is greatly appreciated!!! Joy Gregg

Glasgow - Steven Bogard Simpson [photo], 25, Glasgow, died Monday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A native of Barren County, he was the son of Steve Allen Simpson and Betty Lou McClellan Simpson. He was a caregiver and was an avid pool player and open wheel racing fan. In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Straddie Allie Simpson; his grandmothers, Velma Smith and Marie Simpson, both of Glasgow; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, J. A. Simpson and Elby Finn, and an uncle, Elby McClellan Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Peers Cemetery.
