Two Owen (No Kin) It was only through DNA testing results that an error was found in my research and with the help of fellow Owen researchers finding two Obadiah Owen in Ky. Census records corrected the error. Obadiah Woodson Owen B. 1785 VA. Entered KY abt. 1802 with his mother, Eady Owen and sibs. They settled in Barren County KY. In the area of what is now called Merry Oaks. Oby M. Polly Bridges in 1807 in Warren County KY. They had the following children, Tabitha B. 1808 and Edith Pigg Owen and Obadiah Woodson Owen JR. B. 1820. Must have been twins. About 1820/21 Obadiah Woodson Owen moved with his family to Graves County in Western KY. Joining his brothers Hezekiah and David. This Obadiah Woodson Owen is a descendent of John Owen and Sarah Brackett. He also is in Group 1 of the Owen Family Association DNA Project. Surprisingly, at about the same time another Obadiah, Obadiah Owen JR. B. 1785 VA. moved into Allen County, KY. Abt. 1821/22 with his wife Martha Rickman and settled on a farm just .04 mile from the Warren County line. This is what caused the mix up. When the Census takers came around and marked their sheets, often they were not sure which county they were in causing this Obadiah to be counted one time in Allen County and the next in Warren County. Obadiah JR. and Martha brought 3 sons with them, Abraham B 1811, Thomas B. 1817, and John B. 1818. ( My Gr. I have never tried researching slaves before, but trying to help someone. From: Joseph Lock, father To: Polly Lock, daughter Type: Gift of slave Hannah and other goods Date: 3 February 1800 Source: Barren Co Deed Book A, p. 35 Is there a way to be able to trace this slave named Hannah after she was gifted to Polly Lock? I ask because the person I am in contact with traces his lineage back to a slave named Hannah of Barren County Kentucky 1800. We both suspect Polly Lock likely sold this slave Hannah to someone else, what records or books should be researched to try to locate this slave? The descendants of Hannah apparently use the Jewell surname today which maybe a clue I am not sure. Thanks for any suggestions Don

Daniel Bradley and wife Susannah of old Frederick County Virginia which became a part of Berkeley County Virginia now West Virginia, migrated to Mercer County Kentucky in the 1780's and is named in the 1780's Madison Count Kentucky tax list, though he does not appear to have owned land in Madison County Kentucky. Daniel Bradley was a neighbor of Richard Lock and son Richard Lock Jr. both of old Frederick County Virginia, Berkeley County Virginia. Richard Lock Jr had 5 Lock sons who also made this migration to Mercer County Kentucky / Madison County Kentucky before settling in Barren County Kentucky by 1799-1800. I think that maybe a possible link for you through Daniel Bradley and wife Susannah. Daniel and Susannah Bradley leased land in old Frederick County Viriginia in 1763 in which Richard Lock his neighbor was a witness to the Daniel Bradley land deed lease. What I don't know is, is if this Daniel Bradley had any sons, I do know he had at least 2 daughters who both married in Mercer County Kentucky. Because the Lock's and Bradley's migrated from Virginia to Kentucky together and the Lock's settled in Barren County, makes me think it is possible Daniel Bradley maybe related to your Bradley lineage some how. Here are a couple sources for this Daniel Bradley. Frederick County Virginia records Land deed book 8, page 162, dated Feb. 7th, 1763 The Daniel Bradley & wife Susannah land deed ends on page 162 and Richard Lock's land deed starts at the bottom of page 162. How many pages there are to the Daniel Bradley land deed lease is unknown to me, but it is likely 3 or 4 pages long. 1789 Madison County Kentucky tax list: Daniel Bradley Geradis Lock married May 13, 1795 in Mercer County Kentucky to Mary Bradley Bondsman: Martin Adams , Brides Father: Daniel Bradley , Teste: Benjamin Lock, by Minister: John Rice Peter Lock married February 25, 1799 in Mercer County Kentucky to Hannah Bradley Bondsman: George Dotson , Consent: Daniel & Susannah Bradley, Teste: William & Benjamin Lock Something to consider anyway, it may or may not be a connection for you.
