Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/UAB.2ACE/1622.2 Message Board Post: I have some answers to your questions. All of the listings of Page. 217 and Page 238 are the same people. Page 219 Polly Yates maiden name was Raines, and here is the story: Polly Raines was the daughter of John H. Raines, she had a son out of wedlock named James Harvey Raines. James Harvey Raines was raised by his grandfather and mother until Polly Raines married William Yates when she was 49 years of age. At the time of the marriage James Harvey Raines was almost ready to get married. James Harvey married Elizabeth Jane Rucker daughter of Ephraim Rucker and Rosamond Wright. On the marriage application James Harvey listed his grandfather John Raines as his father. On Page 217 Sept. 21, 1850 Census it shows that Ephraim Rucker was living with his son-in-law and daughter and their children. James Harvey listed his name as Harvey Raines, don't know why he left off his first name. On Page 219 Sept. 24, 1850 shows the household of William Yates age 69 and his wife Polly Yates age 49. Polly's maiden name was Raines and she is the mother of James Harvey Raines (Harvey Raines). It also shows James H. Raines son James H. Raines age 4 living in the househould. I don't know why he was listed unless he was staying with his grandmother at the time. Page 238 October 13, 1850 it now lists James H. Raines, his wife Elizabeth Jane, and children Mray J, James H. Elizabeth C, and Rosamond A all living togehter. I believe that by Oct. 13,1850 Ephraim Rucker had died and the James Harvey Raines family were all living under the same roof. As you can see the young son James H. age 4 was only at his grandmothers house 2 week before the last census, so I believe he was visiting at the time the census taker came around. I am a decendent of James H. Raines and Elizabeth Jane (Rucker) Raines, they are my gg-grandparents. I have been trying to find out who exactly was James H. Raines grandfather, John Raines, his wife and parents. Since your Raines and my Raines lived in the same area of KY they could be related. My Raines family eventually left KY and moved to Indiana then finally moved to MO. James H. Raines and Elizabeth Jane Raines are buried near Mertz, MO. Many of their children (including my g-grandmother) moved to Oregon and many Raines are still there. I hope I haven't made this too confusing.

http://www.kygenweb.net/ukfilm/index.html Beverly go to this site...scroll down and click on Anderson Co. Print it out and take to your library and they will get it for you - you have to look at it in the library as it is a loan. I looked at a film 1885-1889 from the Anderson News...was awsome and interresting news, and I found a few tidbits about my ancestors too. Who are you researching? Rosemary ________________________________________________ I am looking for the date and name of the earliest newspaper in Lawrenceburg? Also, is it archived and do you know where? Thank you, Beverly
I have no idea of the answer to this question, but I do know that the Wm. T. Young Library at the Univ. of Ky., Lexington has made a collection of local Kentucky newspapers and would probably have the answer to your question. I do know that the Anderson News of Lawrenceburg does not have its old issues. Bob Moore
Dear Beverly, the KyGenWeb has a link to a site called Kentucky Newspapers on Microfilm. http://www.kygenweb.net/ukfilm/index.html the above URL will take you right to it. Looking under Anderson Co., there is only one paper, the Anderson News and the earliest date is 1885. CHESHER who married Elizabeth K. WALKER in 1867. I need the exact date and confirmation that it is an Anderson Co. marriage. CHESHER is often mispelled as CHESHIRE/CHESSOR/CHESSER, etc. Robert's middle name was BURNS or perhaps the license is in the name of BURRIS CHESHER (also a common mistake). However, I am SURE of the bride's name and suggest this may be the best way to locate the record. In exchange, I will look up an individual of your choice in any census year in any location.
