I checked my Alton Cemetery records and the only Ragan I found was : Silas RAGAN 18 Nov 1830 - 26 Aug 1913 (son of William and Jane RAGAN). I find it interesting that Lot 41 of the Alton Cemetery plat has the names Bacon, Ragan & Storts. I'm not sure they are related but the Bacon and Storts data is: BACON, Lucy R. 29 Oct 1881 - no death date STORTS, Julia Ann 13 Aug 1864 - 15 Apr 1917 (wife of J.R. STORTS). Hope this helps. Linda
Looking for informtion on David S. Ragan, son of Silas Ragan and Sarah "Sallie Bond Ragan. He was born April 1859 and died after 1910. He married Harriet Vaughn Jan 1880. They had Bernice, Ollie (married Athel Gash) and Hubert Ragan. Any information is greatly appreciated Also, Silas Ragan is supposedly buried in the Alton Cemetery. Could someone with access to that cemetery record see if David and Harriet are buried there too. Thanks Jean Kelley

Before I found that William was my Richard Dabney's father I was searching for a link to the Richard Dabney Phillips on the 1810-1830 census. I found numerous deeds, etc. on this man. He was married to Mary Jane "Polly" Terrell. This couple left the Anderson/Mercer County area and moved to Clark County, Missouri around 1834 joining several of his children in that area. My Phillips line also had numerous family members that moved west in the early 1800s to Illinois & Missouri. You might keep that in mind and look westward for your missing generation. Good Luck

Researchers have suggested that Nicholas' father was named John. One person claims that Nicholas' son, John Andrew, was born in Lincoln Co., KY. However, that county was actually in VA when the boy was born. So I guess I'll follow that lead for a while, and see where it takes me. Happy hunting and thanks for sharing!

Mr. Alexander's book stated that Jeremiah came to the states from Sussex, England. George is a common name and frequently found during the different generations. You will find several different Phillips' families in the Mercer & Anderson County area. In checking some of Mr. Alexander's references, I located my William in Woodford County in 1807-1818. William died in 1854 in Anderson County. For the record, Anderson County was formed in 1827 from Franklin, Mercer and Washington Counties. Mr. Alexander mentions in his book that a George Nicholas Phillips of Mercer County, Kentucky served from Amherst County, VA. However, Jeremiah's son was named George Mitchell Phillips.
Does anybody have any reliable information on the Simpson family that came to Anderson Co. about 1850 from Marion Co.? Lloyd's marriage record (second mariage) indicates that he was born in Pittsylvania Co., Va. about 1799-1800. It would seem to me that the families of at least two brothers were in Anderson. Lloyd came with his wife Rebecca Milburn by the time of the 1850 census. The family of his probable brother Peyton (wife Sarah McCarty) was still in Marion Co. in 1850, although Peyton was already deceased by that time. By about 1852 they were in Anderson Co., where widow Sarah and four of her children all married Burgins. I have seen one undocumented claim that the parents of Lloyd and Peyton were Lloyd Simpson and Martha Smith of Pittsylvania. Does anybody have proof of this and any other information on the family? I see that there are several other Simpson men in Anderson who were the right age to be brothers of Lloyd and Peyton, but have nothing to prove it. Marion Co. has a large Catholic population, but the Simpsons are obviously Protestants. Bob Moore
I just found out George Searcy Married 2 sister, Sarah & Martha Petty. Their mother Mary A. (Shouse) Petty is buried in the Petty Graveyard, Anderson Co, KY. Does anyone have access to the cemetery records there? I would like to find out if there is any Searcys & Pettys buried there. Petty Cemetery: located in the Petty neighborhood, graveyard near Anderson City eight miles west of Lawrenceburg, Hwy 44. Petty Graveyard: Located near Salt River in Anderson City. Dennis

I do think your family and my friend's family are related, somehow! Mercer was one of the original nine counties of KY. Maybe Anderson was created from part of the same area. I haven't checked, but I imagine this is the case. So families in one county could be the same families in the other. Happens a lot. Do you know the names of Jeremiah's brothers? Do you know where Jeremiah lived in 1800? The first name George certainly keeps repeating in my research. I have not seen the name William Phillips/Philips in my research, but I have not looked in Anderson County. I found enough confusion in Mercer! <g> Is George Phillips ( son of Jeremiah) who died 1838 Mercer Co., KY, the same one who applied for the mililary pension there in 1832? Thanks for your help!

Since posting that request I located information that Richard Dabney (Dabner) Phillips is the son of William Phillips, b. 1774 VA, d. 8/5/1854 in Anderson Co, KY. William Phillips was the son of Jeremiah Phillips, b. 1745 d. 1805 Mercer Co., KY. I also think that the Richard Dabney Phillips in 1810 Mercer County was in someway related, however, Jeremiah's Will in 1805 listed his children as being William, George (died 1838 in Mercer Co. KY), Caty and Polly. I also think there is a connection to this Dabney Phillips, perhaps he was a nephew to Jeremiah.

The Tolle road (Wildcat Pike) is so long and winding, I was wondering, at least what section the cemetery was in. I know it's on someone's farm so it's going to be a bit hard to get to. It used to be Essie Belle (Griffey) Barnett's homestead (a great great Aunt) It will be a wonderful chance to see my Great Great Grandparents Samuel A. and Martha S. Barnett's headstones if there are any. If by any chance you have another conversation with him, just write down what he says and we'll decipher it later!! Thank you again!! ~Deb

Philips who is in the 1810 Mercer Co., KY census? He is 26-45 years of age, has a wife and two daughters under 10. On same page, 328, are Nicholas and John Philips. Aaron, George and Jacob are on page 326. You say your Richard Dabney Phillips was in Anderson County, which is adjacent on the north, to Mercer County. Maybe there is some connection between your Phillips family and the one I am researching. I am researching Nicholas Philips/Phillips who lived in Mercer Co., KY from 1810-1830. In 1830 Nicholas Phillips was in McNairy Co., TN. His son, George N. Phillips, is my friend's ancestor. I have seen the name Dabney mentioned with the Phillips surname before. Do you know what the connection is?
Hello, I just noticed the name of Sea with your Mosley family. I am related to John Griffin who married Susannah Seay. Does this ring any bells? I would also like to know how you fit into the Mosley line. I know you stated that Mary Ann Mosley was your g-g-grandmother and she married William H. Nevins. I do not have these names in my material that I remember of, however I have a lot of Mosley material I would be happy to share with you. My g-g-grandfather was Armstead Mosley who lived in Anderson Co., Ky. My father, his father, and Armstead Mosley's brother all have the middle name of Anderson. Have no proof but I believe they were given the name of the County as their middle names. Please let me hear from you. Coleen.
Hello Bobby, I would like to correspond with you about the Mosley family. E-mail me at jcdoc@aol.com. My maiden name was Mosley. I have much info. on the Mosley family but need to know more about your ancestors. Will be glad to share with you. Coleen.
