My confusion came in as Anderson County did keep death records starting at least in 1852, kept them through 1859 then stopped until 1874. Your idea about an elected official's discretion about keeping such records is an excellent one. Thank you!
In general, Kentucky kept death records for 1852-1861 and 1873-1878. Not all counties kept good records nor did all of the records survive for all years. If the Archives searched for you then they are correct that your death records do not exist. The next best source for information would be gravestones or obituaries (if they exist.) I do not know if there are newspapers for that period, but probably not. The Civil War caused many papers to cease publication for that time. Sharon > I am in search of the death records of 3 men who died between 1860 & 1862 in Anderson County [John Ripy died 1/27/1862; Arthur McGaughey died after June 1860; and his son Daniel McGaughey died 11/1/1860]. However, the KY State Archives stated Anderson County did not keep death records between 1860 & 1873, which seems bizarre to me. Has anyone been able to find any such records somewhere else? Cemetery records, etc? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!!
Searching for information on John Dandridge Brown, ca 1853-1934 and wife Martha Catlett, ca 1856-1926. Looking for ancestors and siblings, and connection with the Oliver and Busey clan. Any help appreciated. Regards John Lilly

I haven't run across the name Sophronia Brown either. Do you happen to have any Barnett's in your line? I just discovered them this past week. John Barnett married to (they show Julia/Jalila) but her name is actually Delila Brown, the daughter of Robert Brown and Nancy Clark. Both are buried in the Fairview Christian Church Cemetery in Anderson County, KY. I haven't tracked the children's name yet either. I did send for several death certificates but haven't received them. May get them tomorrow. Do you have any knowledge of the Gordon Funeral Home? I wrote to them some time ago about Elizabeth Gordon Brown, to see if perhaps they were related and had handled her funeral, but of course I didn't receive an answer. Pauline Jdee9137@aol.com

Murphy were brothers. They were born five years apart. I believe that from what I have seen that Brice E. born 1815 and Terrell born 1810 were the sons of the old Brice of Virginia b abt 1784 and Catherine.... I intend to go to Anderson Co.Courthouse to research this family soon. I have some information on Brice and Terrell at my office in another computer. I will TRY and remember to look at it and see about getting it to you. This is a work in process right now but, it is evident to me that these are the same family. Keep in touch and I'll do the same. They certainly intermingled in the same area, marrying the common names of Anderson and Shelby, but I just can't put my finger on that one person showing where they might connect. I'm supposing Brice was just a more common name at that time, since there were a few of them. The Brice in my tree that married Mary Jane Corbin has listed on his death certificate, T. L. Murphy, as his father. I was thinking this was the Tillman Lefler Murphy that was living next to him in the 1880 census, but a Family Search listing stated this man moved to Illinois and died. I'm wondering if there are any clues in Illinois anywhere? I'm wondering now if this T.L. might be Terrell, because Brice Elkins Murphy named one of his boys Terrell L. This T. L. Murphy would have been more of the age of your Brice Enos Murphy. Perhaps we should look at any connection that might be derived from that. This might explain how they all came to b! e living in the same area.
