Does anyone know this man and his wife? Could Celia be nickname and the above be her given name? Just pondering here. I found this at FamilySearch. This family was in Illinois in 1850, but in 1880 is in Anderson County. Neither Brice, nor Almedia, nor Susan has any record of where they were actually born. The 1880 listing has a Lefler Murphy and Celia living next door to Brice and having their granddaughter Alice Parmer living with them (Almedia's child). Anybody have any thoughts on this matter? This seems to suggest this is the couple, but need to actually find out what T. L. stands for. Notice that Mary Ann Parker hails from Fraquier County, Virginia. Perhaps something to look into. I can't for the life of me now remember where, but I read that these two Tilman's are one in the same. Forgive me for rambling, but I'm tired and wanted to get this posted before I went to bed. Murphy may have come from either. That info was derived from Brice Elkin Murphy's death certificate which states his parents as T. L. Murphy and Murphy (Celia wasn't listed by name) as having been born there. I have to nose around some to find out which county. I also recently obtained the death certificate for a Mary Jane Murphy, who I believe is the wife of Brice. It lists very little on the certificate, with no parent info at all. She is buried at Pigeon Fork Cemetery, Shelby County, Kentucky...a popular Murphy burial ground. I think she may be a daughter of a William Corbin, who has marriage records listed of a couple of daughters he signed for when they married. Those are on the Shelby KyGenWeb site. I'd like to learn more about this Corbin line also, as they perhaps traveled together to Kentucky. When I find the time, I'll try to nose around here at the Shelby County courthouse and see if can find a marriage! or land transaction record there. Perhaps there will be a clue somewhere. Hang in there. We'll get this all figured out in time. Please feel free to holler at me anytime at all. Donnie

I wonder if there are any estate settlements of the Murphy's in Ky which would involve family in VA...or land settlements or deeds that would name anyone back home in VA? At least now I'll quit trying to give T. L. another name other than Terrell....hehe. I'll try to get the death certificate, but I was wondering if the Susan Mary Ritter buried at Mt. Vernon Cemetery is the same Susan M. who was daughter to Terrell and Celia? Her dates are b. 12 Jan 1849, d. 26 Nov 1925. The only thing is she is buried next to a David M. Ritter. The dates are right but the husband isn't (assuming he was a husband). I'm very glad to know that Terrell L. is Brice Elkins father. Now maybe I can find something on him in Virginia records. Gotta run to work....will look at this again later. Donnie

Parmer is listed as 39 (b: 1840-1841) Deed of 1892-1893 says she has a brother named Brice and his wife Mary J. A sister named Susan who married William Ritter What i have always believed was that the Brice of the 1860 census is here brother living next door so he was 23 in 1900 he would have been 63 if Maz(?) is Mary J. then she would be 59 Susan would be about 60 If this is right then on the 1840 Census Brice would be the m under 5 and Almedia would have been the f under 5 and Susan and Nathaniel would not have yet been born. About all i know i have not gotten very far with this group. If i find any more i will let you know

    2. I'm researching a GASH family from Kentucky that really has me stumped. Martha Ellen GASH, born 28 May 1829, was married to David SNIDER. They lived in Mt. Eden, Shelby County, KY and she died 9 December 1877. She is buried in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery in Mt. Eden. I have lots of information about her twelve children, but I don't know her parents or siblings or where they were from. I assume Kentucky, but I don't have any documentation.
