Researching the following surnames: BURGIN, CASE, WARD, SIMPSON, GOFF, SATTERLY, BOWMAN, BARNETT, MOORE, LAWSON, PINKSTON, HUNDLEY, BARKER, SNIDER, MILLER, DADISMAN, ELLIS. Primary area was Anderson, Washington, Nelson, Mercer, Marion and Spencer counties, although the BURGIN name was first found in Clark/Fayette Co.-1790 and then Shelby Co.-early 1800s. Most families came thru VA, which is where I am at a dead end with most. Some have gone back to MD and some back to PA.
Hello again-- One of my biggest mysteries is a marriage between Frances HIEATT or HIATT in 1840 to Wesley G. WATTS. They lived in Shelby Co. and are buried there. But I understand (and I don't know where this information came from--maybe it isn't true!) that Meredith HIEATT was the father of Frances and that he was from Anderson Co. I am looking for that family in Anderson Co. Any help? I have spent some time in the Anderson Co. Public Library but I've never researched any census records there. I don't know if they have census records or microfilm readers. Thanks again, Judy

Hello all -- I had a good suggestion from Judy, a new listmember from Michigan, today. She suggested that it might be helpful to all of us if each posted a list of our principal surnames of interest, or identified our current ancestoral dead-ends in Anderson County. Then maybe someone might be able to direct some info our way, because they 'll know what we're looking for. I hadn't done this before because I post queries to the Anderson Co. Query Forum and also have my surnames in the Anderson Co. Surname Page. Actually this was rather shortsighted because no one reads everything. My relatives from Anderson County are not easy to identify individually because they have been in the general area of Mercer, Washington, Anderson, Madison, Garrard, Boyle, Marion and other nearby counties for 180-210 years, and have never stopped moving around and intermingling. The principal surnames, however, that I associate with Anderson Co. in particular are: Wickersham, Bruner, Moore, Peavler, Ross, and Ward -- at least those are the ones that spring to mind at the moment. I also have some long-ago White, Tudor, and Searcy ancestors from Madison County, whose descendants probably moved into Anderson County, but I have not researched this aspect specifically so far. So, enough of my genealogical interest. Would someone else like to take a turn?? Birchell Coslow
Hello Researchers, I am happy to announce that I have completed and published a book of the 1850 Woodford County Census. The book is 249 pages and indexed, with card stock cover, comb binding, with vinyl overlay. The database for this project had over 6,000 names and includes all of the information the censustaker recorded. This book is for sale at the; Woodford County Historical Society 121 Rose Hill Versailles, Ky 40383 The price is $20.00, plus $3.00 shipping I am currently working on a marriage bond project for Woodford County, Ky., marriages from 1789 to 1850 and hope to have a book of this information published soon. The copies of these bonds will be stored at the Woodford County Historical Society and available for research there. Thank you, Dona Wilson
Barb -- Nice to hear from you. The list currently has 35 subscribers (enough for a respectable chivaree, and almost enough for a political rally). It's growing well, I think, considering how new new it is. I think the mail will pick up a lot when we get into the habit of asking questions and sharing family information. (It will also improve when it gets a little hotter outside, and we're more comfortable sitting inside with the air conditioning, doing genealogy of course.) Hi, I'm thinking the list is kind of small because I don't get much mail, but enough to know I am still on the list. I am interested in the town and families above. Thanks. Hi Smitty -- That's very, very nice of you!! Ideally, having the records in a ".txt" file would be easiest; if that's a problem though, please just go ahead and send them in whatever format they're in now. For word processing files, please send them to Phyllis Hill by e-mail at: <[email protected]>. Phyllis is our Anderson Co. Archivist and primary contact for posting documents to the Archives. The Anderson Co. Archives BTW are at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ky/anderson/toc.html> and, thanks to voluntary contributions like yours (and a lot of hard work by Phyllis), growing rapidly. If you have hardcopy (printed) documents to post, you can mail them to me at: 174 S Corona St, Denver CO 80209-2424. You could alternatively mail them to Phyllis, except that I don't have her USPS mailing address so you'd have to get it from her via e-mail. Either way, the data will get to the right place. Thanks very much!! Birchell Coslow Smitty Crossfield wrote: > > Have many marriage records of Anderson Co. How do you want them sent? > Smitty [email protected]

I'm forwarding this on to KyAnders-L so that everyone can have the benefit of this very thorough response to Dan's question. Birchell Coslow
Just subscribed and want to say 'hello' to everyone. I'm researching the David Layton family. By tradition my grgrandfather was born in 'Rough & Ready' (renamed Alton) just outside of Lawrenceburg about 1844 and was the fourth of seven children of David Layton and Melinda (GALAWAY?). This is a wonderful way to get in touch with others who share an interest. Pamela Bane
Barb -- I enjoyed your introduction very much, and I'm sure everyone else did too. Concerning Mundy's Landing, it is located in Mercer County where Shawnee Run Road crossed the Kentucky River into Woodford County (about 1-1/2 miles downstream from the mouth of Shawnee Run Creek). In former times, this road was the only road between Harrodsburg and Lexington, and the landing itself was quite important since the Kentucky River in those days was a heavily-traveled commercial route. The Landing was made a tobacco inspection port in 1793 and shortly became a prominent commercial and agricultural center. According to George M. Chinn's "The History of Harrodsburg and 'The Great Settlement Area' of Kentucky 1774-1900 (1985), Thomas Mundy built a two-story log house here before 1800, eventually with slave quarters and warehouses, on a hill overlooking the landing that still bears his name. (pp. 75, 266) The landing was a popular stopping point for the many steamboats that heavily plied the River until about the time of the Civil War, due to the scenic beauty of the area and difficulties with navigating the River upstream from the mouth of Shawnee Run.
