Don, I'm sure you know I'm interested not only for access to your site but to learn of your knowledge of the area. When did you pop in? What are your connections? All of my father's lines see to be Warren, Allen, Simpson (barely Barren) and Smith County, Tennessee - perhaps Sumner and a little more. Oh, that's right, Grandma Aramitta (don't mind all the spellings, you'll hardly see it spelled the same way twice was born in Union County, KY for some odd reason. I think the other kids in the family were, too. What the hell was Atwood (Allen) and Mahulda Patterson (probably Simpson but possibly Smith County, TN) doing way up in Boxcar Twp.. Union County, Kentucky having all their kiddies? I would say - I dunno - must be about 50/50 because the Hardcastles were Warren and the Willoughbys were Allen and they are my grandfather and grandmother's lines. Next, Meek/s and Ragsdale. I am stumped on the Ragsdales. I'm good on the old part of the Pattersons and related Tenn. Grinad/Grenade, Sutherland/Southerland lines. Also, the last trace of Mahulda/Huldy I can find is the 1880 census. She simply vanishes. I would just like to visit the poor woman's grave. She is my great-grandmother. There is more to it than this, but hubby Atwood/At/Att died at "Hopkinsville" - the Western Kentucky Lunatic Asylum in 1911. This is one of those things that I dug out of the shallow ground because Aunt (Lassie) Mae, a person I knew all my life and my dad never seemed to be aware Atwood was alive and even living with them during their lifetime. Well, my dad was really too little to remember (both he and Mae are dead.) Humongous mystery - I have my theories. His grave is on the grounds of the now-Western Kentucky State Hospital, but probably unmarked. No funeral, no obituary, nobody took him home to bury him and they didn't return to fill out his death certificate, because it is uffed up. I believe this is my great-uncle (yes, it's true!) William Green Hardcastle, born 1842 in Warren County. In our family Bible or some other information (Aunt Lassie Mae apparently disposed of the Bible after she figured out we knew she erased the "Lassie" out of her name) it was indicated that William Green and his brother John Thomas Hardcastle, born 1841, both died of pneumonia in the war. We never even knew what side they were on. I still haven't been able to find anything resembling records for John. Does anyone have any good information about any of this? Name: William Hardcastle Company: C Unit: 52 Kentucky Infantry. Rank - Induction: Private Rank - Discharge: Private Allegiance: Union Name: William Hardcastle Enlistment Date: 17 September 1863 Distinguished Service: DISTINGUISHED SERVICE Side Served: Union State Served: Kentucky Unit Numbers: 809 809 Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on 17 September 1863 Enlisted in CompanyC, 52nd Infantry Regiment Kentucky on 16 October 1863. Martha, Several things for you. First, I am Not from the Hardcastle lines. (Yet) My family was there from the beginning in the late 1700's as Long Hunters and then part of the mass migration after the Rev. War. I have 19 surnames from Warren County alone and some from Allen, Barren, Logan, Simpson, Butler and Edmonson Co's.. I knew many different Hardcastle people when I was much younger as neighbors and members of my family's Churches. I am actually a "Yankee" from Michigan but, spent a great deal of time there from the time of my birth which was a few moons ago. My entire family is from there and buried there. They also covered all corners of Warren Co.. As far as the site is concerned, it was started by Lloyd Raymer, a noted genealogist from Anna, Ky., near Richardsville and Sandhill. Lloyd is an expert on the whole region and there are several more "Cousins" that share great knowledge. As I said before, we are all related in one way or another. Lloyd give up as the Admin. of the site but is still active. We are a good bunch and pretty folksy. I'll send you an invite if you will promise to list your surnames and take an active part. It's not really like the Rootsweb sites, just a little more Homey as they say! LOL Be sure to tell us of yourself as well!!! Yuppers! My father was born Dec. 12, 1908, probably around Elk Spring, to Sidney Philip and Arminta Clay Willoughby Hardcastle. My family is so inbred that we have three generations of Hardcastle men marrying into the same line of Willoughby women. Oh - my dad was 49 when I was born in 1958. His father was 51 when he was born! Please go offline to Mothra@woh.rr.com - I'd be interested in any Hardcastle stuff you have. Thanks, Martha Don Burris wrote: > Martha, > No, Burgoo isn't my site but, it's a great site operated by Mike Wilson. It is a fun site though and full of resources. Martha, No, Burgoo isn't my site but, it's a great site operated by Mike Wilson. It is a fun site though and full of resources. Mine is a private site for residents in a particular part of Warren County. Most, are related one way or another and FULL of local knowledge. Is your Hardcastle surname of Warren Co??? Tons of them there!\ and one was a preacher that I once knew. I realize this is in Warren County across the Barren River from Barren County, but it's also not far from Allen County. I'm really trying to locate this and even have description that it was on the north side of the river. I'm even trying to use maps to find it, but to no avail so far. I can't seem to pull up the right map online to help me pinpoint it and I haven't been able to find it listed anywhere. Can anyone help? This should be an early cemetery. I believe there is another Grinstead Cemetery not too far away in Barren County but this one should be in Warren. Martha in snowy southwest Ohio >
Just a minor detail, if anyone is tracking this family. There is a small error in this obit.?? T.Y. is acutally TY.? The letters are not initials - just 2 capital letters that don't mean anything - per him.? I have always thought he was named for great-uncle Thoughty Yessie Oliver, but he always adamently insisted "No periods".
