Hi All, I need some help~ A Genealogy researcher in Mexico, (not bilingual either), has emailed me a large file but I can't read it. Yes.....I took Spanish in college but, "so what"? That was 45 years ago and I haven't got a clue what I'm reading. Hmmmm.....? I'm about to wear out the, Google Language Tool that translates from one language to another but at this rate, it'll be another 45 yeas before I've translated this huge file! This brings me to my next situation which is..... When I tried to open another one of his files, it wouldn't open and I got a message saying, "WINDOWS CAN NOT OPEN THIS FILE" and I have no idea what to do in order to open the file. Using handy dandy Google translate tool again, I emailed the person in Mexico and told them about the problem. They emailed me back in Spanish and I translated it to English and this is what, "I think" he said for me to do. ------------------------------------------------------------------- (in Spanish)..... prima: tienes que tener en tu computadora de family search org. un programa que se llama paf.5 o ( personal ancestral file) nomber 4 o 5 y con ese debes poder leer lo que yo te envie al final. ---------------------------------------------------------- (which Google translated to English)..... Premium: you must have on your family computer search org. A program that is called paf.5 or (personal ancestral file) number 4 or 5 and with that you should be able to read what I send you in the end. ------------------------------------------------------------ Now I'm a pretty smart person all right but, I have no idea what I'm supposed to do? Does anyone out there understand any of this and can anyone out there PLEASE lend me a hand and tell me, educate me, and instruct me as to what I'm supposed to do in order to read this genealogical file? This file apparently goes all the way back to some of my earliest ancestors, (not from Kentucky - sorry), who migrated to the North American continent in the 1800's, and I would like to read the file! I just don't know how to get it to open. How do I always seem to get myself into these predicaments? >grin< Any helpers out there? Anyone a, Computer Whiz? Anyone out there really fluent in Spanish? With appreciation, Mimi Alexander wallyjakeandme@msn.com<mailto:wallyjakeandme@msn.com>
KYALLEN List Members, We've lost another treasured friend....Martha Jackson. She'll be missed but never far from our thoughts. Over the years, many of us List Members at KYALLEN have been assisted with our Kentucky genealogical research by three amazing women..... Rosemary Harper, Mildred Jent, and, Martha Jackson. Each of those ladies generously shared their love of genealogical research and unselfishly extended their help and assistance to anyone in need in exchange for a smiling face or sincere thank you. Each one has passed away now leaving us with a wealth of genealogical information. How fortunate we've all been to have had them in our lives as we researched our Kentucky ancestors. They'll all be missed..... ~Three wonderful treasures~ Lovingly~ Mimi Alexander wallyjakeandme@msn.com<mailto:wallyjakeandme@msn.com> ----- Original Message ----- From: FmlyTracer@aol.com<mailto:FmlyTracer@aol.com> To: kyallen@rootsweb.com<mailto:kyallen@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, February 25, 2008 7:39 PM Subject: [KYALLEN] Martha Jackson It is with great sadness that I announce Allen Co has again lost a champion of genealogy and history. Marianne - Thanks for your information on the Harris family. It was fun to compare research that I had done maybe 10 years ago. Hi Mary, I am glad you enjoyed the Harris data. I descend from David Harris and Elizabeth "Martha" Hardy's son Joel Hardy Harris and Sarah Ogles. I wanted to share my findings with others who might descend from this Harris line too but might not know about the lineage in Virginia. Sharon, Regarding MATILDA TABOR, (1826-1896), you're saying she died literally, one month after her marriage date to ISAAC TABOR? Do you know what she died of? That seems strange to die so quickly after her marriage. Below are the men I show were married to MATILDA TABOR. THOMAS CONNER........Dec. 8, 1840........Thomas Conner died in 1854. WILLIAM W. OLIVER.....May 5, 1856........William Oliver died in 1868. JOSEPH SMITH............Nov. 9, 1869......I Don't have a death date for Joseph. ISAAC TABOR............June 10, 1896......Don't have Isaac's death date either! JAMES TABOR, (1745-1855), and EDY RUSSELL, (date unknown), may have been married in VIRGINIA, and not North Carolina where you say you have not found marriage records for RUSSELS / TABORS. Keeping in mind the "date", and formation of counties such as North Carolina/Virginia, or boundary changes.....it's possible they were married in Person Co., or Halifax, (for example)..... to me, the name of, "EDY", sounds like a nickname for the name, "EDITH". You lost me when you wrote, "Isaac married Jane Segraves, sister to his uncle George's wife Caroline".....???? (and) " Isaac was son of James Tabor, son of Isaac & Louisa, and Elizabeth daughter of George W. & Caroline Segraves Tabor - James and George being 1/2 brothers. Isaac married 2nd to Matilda Tabor, another daughter of George W. & Caroline Segraves Tabor. Isaac married 3rd to Georgia Shields.".....????? Thanks for unraveling all the TABOR'S. Just a quick reminder - when the subject matter of emails change, please change the subject heading of the email rather than just hitting the "Reply" button. >From the original email of Mildred Jent's obit, we are now discussing Landrums and Owen's, but from the headings it still appears we are discussing Mildred. There may be people who will delete the Mildred emails not knowing there may be valuable family information involving other families in the correspondance. :) Thanks Sharon Tabor List Administrator In a message dated 2/22/2008 12:25:22 A.M.
