    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RAB.2ACI/2642.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Carlis.. Thank you for your reply. I was wondering what it was that you found in the 1850 census that showed William, aged 80, to be the father of Lee? In reading the 1850 Adair census I find William, age 80 in the household with George W. and Serena Coomer while Leander and Nancy Coomer are listed on the next page, both born in VA. There was a whole group of Coomers in Lee Co, VA which I have not looked into because I didn't want to further muddy the waters for myself. I know I have seen a lot of the Pulaski county Coomers who were tied to Lee, VA. By the 1860 census, Lee Coomer is listed in Adair with wife, Mary Ann...Lee being listed as born in Lee, VA while Mary Ann is born in Stokes. I would have problems thinking that Leander is the eldest William's son, given the fact that he would have been 55 at the time of his birth. There is no record of a 2nd marriage for William. This would mean that Sukea (who most believe was born between 1770 and 1772) would have been ~56 years old when Leander was born. This is just not conceivable. Some women had babies in their forties but not in their fifties. I don't find any census records in my papers for Lee and Mary Ann for 1870 but by 1880, they are back in Adair with Lee and Mary listed as born in NC and with John Coomer, age 85 living in the household with them. If John was the father of Lee, he would have been born ~1795 and would have been about 33 when Lee was born. This John is most likelythe John J. Coomer listed in the 1820 Stokes census on page 337. This would match his age. Of course, there is a slight chance that John would be Lee's uncle but usually the father ended up with one of the children later in life rather than relatives. That is all the information that I have which might help. James
