THANK YOU EDITH and PEGGY... Help has been incoming from another knowledgable person as well. Part of my delimma has been in determining just WHAT TYPES of records are kept there as well as how the INDEXES for those records are arranged. For instance, I see now that Wills are available ...so my next question would be how to locate one using the availble index... Is the index alphabetical for a number of years, OR are they listed by year first, and then alphabetical.. In other words, I know that I can't hope or expect that the Clerk will go searching through these records without an index and then only if the index is set up in such a way that a search can be performed in a minimal ammount of time. The first search I would like to perform is for a SUSPECTED deed of sale for land in the year 1816. Understanding how they are arranged in the index , if available, would help me better communicate to the Clerk just what it is that I am after , OR perhaps, the knowledge of the indexing available, would tell me that what I am requesting is just too general and time consuming for the clerk to deal with. Thanks for the tip on the Watson book. I'll keep my eyes peeled for it.. Thanks Again for the help.. Sherry PS.. I am researching the McDowell Family and their available records at Adair for the years 1808 - 1838...plus or minus a bit.
