Replying to clevelandfair@aol.com: Can you connect the Fair family of Lincoln County and Adair Co, KY in mid 1800's to your Joel Joseph Fair of Missouri?. I am researching the family of MATTHEW BUSBY and first wife, SELUDA TINSLEY, married Amherst Co, Va in 1803 and found living in Adair Co, KY by 1816 on the Green River. Matthew was married 3 times in all. His 2nd wife was Sarah "Sally" Drake Winfrey; 3rd was Polly Busby. I am trying to prove that his 3rd wife was Mary "Polly" Fair and a member of the James M. (Montgomery?) Fair and Mary Elizabeth May family of Lincoln Co, KY. Here is what I've found so far. Corrections/additions/documentations appreciated: A Fair researcher sent information from a family bible that shows: Mary Fair Busby, born 9-27-1800; died 12-3-1888 Elizabeth Ann Busby, born 3-16-1843. Was 3rd wife, Polly Busby, the same person as Mary Fair Busby? Was Polly Busby/Mary Fair Busby a member of the following family? James M. Fair, (born in Bedford Co, VA) and Mary Elizabeth May Fair of Lincoln County, KY. CHILDREN: Mary Fair/Busby???? Jane Fair William M. Fair, 2nd wife of James M. Fair: Elizabeth Porter Fair I believe the William M. Fair, above, is the one mentioned below in November 6, 1843 court records concerning guardianship of a child of Matthew and Polly Busby. "On the motion of Polly Busby, she is appointed guardian to Betsey Ann Busby, infant daughter of Matthew Busby, deceased, she having executed and acknowledged bond in the penal sum of eight hundred dollars with William M. Fair her security conditioned as the law directs." A few years later, Polly Busby and Betsy Ann Busby are found on the 1850 Lincoln Co, KY census. Also shown living in her household is a Jane Fair and an Elizabeth Fair. I believe this Elizabeth Fair is her step-mother, Elizabeth Porter Fair. As mentioned, Polly is buried in McKinney Cemetery in Lincoln County, KY but a burial site for Matthew has not been found there. I theorize they were still living in Adair County when Matthew died and he is most likely buried in the same location as first wife, Seluda Tinsley Busby. So far I have not been able to determine which cemetery that might be. I believe that after Matthew's death, Polly and Betsy Ann Busby moved back to Lincoln County to be near her family. I believe that James M. Fair and Mary Elizabeth May Fair of Lincoln County were Polly's parents and that the Jane Fair shown on the 1850 census was her sister and that the above mentioned William M. Fair was her brother. Can anyone prove or disprove any portion of this theory? Is this Fair family part of the Joel Joseph Fair family of Missouri?
