FYI - Another Adair County Web Site. You may or may not know about the ColumbiaMagazine Online site. However they have upgraded to a much broader band site and have a number of sections/subjects now. I have been in touch with the owner and ask about a genealogy section covering genealogy related interests. If any of you are interested in this endeavor please visit the site at: http://www.columbiamagazine.com When on their site fell free to send a message to them expressing what you would like to see there. When you browse their site you will see that I have a story on site as of today it is the second one down from the top. Called "A Remarkable Man." A friend sent me the following obit that she found in Nashville, TN. "Cemeteries Under Lake Cumberland and Russell Co. Death Records" at the Nashville, TN State Library. ELIZABETH SULLIVANT, 34 female, farmers wife, born Adair Co. Resident of Russell Co. Parents listed as Davison & Mary Bradshaw, died Rus. Co. May 24, 1854. Childbirth listed as cause of death. Does anyone know who Davison and Mary Bradshaw were? Does anyone have access to the death records mentioned above? Thanks. Alene

Hi Janice, Thank You for the HARDWICK and COOLEY info. I think you had replied to my post in June about Melinda SWOPE who married John HARDWICK. I did go and post in Carroll Co,MO. And so far nobody I can find it doing their direct line either. So yes, now I know how SWOPE and HARDWICK connect to each other. But also need to find out how all those other names connect to each other??? hmm I have posted everywhere about each surname and still can't find anything. I know that my GGgrandfather Hiram ROGERS which that name is mentioned in that SWOPE Indenture was in White Co, Ark. by 1870 on that census. Hiram has a sister Martha Ann who married Curran O. HURT in Adair Co, KY. That Indenture shows a Martha HURT and has husband as Benne HURT, but that could be a mistake ???? Martha and Curran were still on the Adair Co,KY. Census in 1880. There is something in Adair Co. which mentions a Hiram ROGERS who died in 1835 Adair Co,KY. and the person who told me that was in Adair during the summer and seen something about it but during there searching for there surnames they did say it was signed or had a mention of a John HARDWICK, they were under the impression that Hiram ROGERS didn't have a Will when he died and no mention of a wife's name on that tid bit. But with court info many times there is more than one listing for death info on settlement of estate etc??? They didn't search for any other info, but it looked like a page of something..some kind of info somewhere else in the records should be there somewhere but the way it was listed/worded etc??? I don't live in Kentucky and I can't find any books on Wills,Deeds or Court minutes for Adair Co. I don't have the money to pay a researcher I heard they are expensive.:( Like some books that are out in other Counties if they have info listed and tells what book and page number than I could afford to order a copy but I don't have that info for Adair Co,KY. I believe the Hiram ROGERS who died in Adair Co. in 1835 is the father of my Hiram ROGERS b.1835, about a year ago a searcher went to Adair Co. somewhere and found a letter written from 1960 from a Dollie(East) KIRK who was also looking to find out the mother maiden name of Hiram ROGERS b.1835 his mother is named Nancy(___) b.1806/07. In her letter she says that her grandfather had said that his grandfather Joseph EAST had married a window named Nancy(____)ROGERS who had a infant son named Frank ROGERS. I knew form the 1850 census that my GGgrandfather Hiram Franklin ROGERS and sister Martha Ann show with mother Nancy and 2nd husband Joseph EAST and on that Census Nancy and Joseph EAST had 3 more sons together named George, James and Alexander. George and James EAST lines couldn't find anything on Nancy (____)Rogers EAST either. I can't find anything on Alexander I don't know if he died or what???? On the 1860 Census it shows Martha Ann and husband Curran O. HURT with their children and also a Louisa EAST age 9. I think this maybe a daughter of Nancy and Joseph EAST...I can't find out what happened to Louisa either. Joseph EAST died in 1858 and is buried in Cheatham Cemetery can't find why he was buried there and so far can't find any connection to any of the other surnames buried in that tiny place. Also in that letter from 1960 she says she was told that Nancy married again maybe to a MUSGROVE/MUSGRAVE??? I can't even find a marriage for her and either of her first two husbands. :( And since that 1860 Census said my Hiram was from Clinton and Clinton was formed from Cumberland Co,KY. I'm thinking the info might be held at local level there also. I'm thinking maybe Nancy's first two marriages were in that County Cumberland. HUGE brickwall, And believe me I have been posting in Adair,Cumberland,Clinton and Wayne Counties you can see me everywhere if you key in the words ROGERS. I have even been posting to surnames that connect to ROGERS and still nothing rings a bell to anybody. So I have a missing link of info and once I find it the pieces will start falling together I hope. So I believe my GGgrandfather is the son of Martha Patsy CROSS who married William ROGERS May 03, 1805 in Grainger Co,TN. Martha left William in Claiborne Co,TN. abt. 1819/1820, William wrote a letter to Martha Patsy in Albany, Cumberland Co,KY. Martha Patsy moved to Russell Co,KY. and that's where is buried also. Martha Patsy's mother is Rebecca (Gibbons)CROSS who after her husband Edward CROSS died in 1794 Hawkins Co,TN. Rebecca married 2nd to a Capt. William NALL. I heard Rebecca either died in Wayne or Cumberland Co. I have posted there to for all surnames. I was sent a woman research papers that were given to someone else in the 1970's who is now dead :( and she had info on the CROSS/GIBBONS lines and shows that Martha Patsy and William had a son named Hiram who had two children named Hiram Franklin and Martha Ann ROGERS she has no info on the wife's name of this Hiram (Sr) ROGERS. I just know this is my line and need info to prove it. Sorry I get so carried away with it, I've been looking for so long and it's so disappointing that I can't find my lines. Thanks to all who took the time to read this. The Melinda Swope Hardwick and John Hardwick her husband, is John W. Hardwick, son of John Hardwick and Rebecca Cooley. John and Melinda moved to Carroll county Missouri as that is they are found in the 1850 census and John died there sometime between May and June of 1870. Hi Peggy, My GGgrandfather is Hiram Franklin ROGERS b. 1835. The 1860 census for Adair Co. show him as being from Clinton Co. ....Clinton Co. was formed in 1836 from Cumberland Co,KY. The only thing I know about my Hiram's mother is that her name is Nancy(____)Rogers EAST born abt. 1806/07 KY. A lady named Sara Beth SWOPE has SWOPE and GWINN surnames on her husbands side and she said that the name Nancy runs through there lines a lot. Meanwhile my ROGERS,CROSS and GIBBONS connect to each other. Then I had found that George GWINN info showing that connection to a GIBBONS so that rang a bell! I also found thes two things below........ (1) 409 "This indenture witnesseth that on the 6th day of May 1870 A A Swope filed his petition in equity in the clerks office of the Clinton Circuit Court against Sylvester E. Swope Aseneth McCullum Eliza Easow Esaw her husband Malinda Hardwick John Hardwick her husband James _ Swope R S swope G H Swope J D Swope George Swope James _ Swope Hiram F Rogers Martha Hurt Benne Hurt her husband James East Florence East and the unknown heirs of Joseph Swope _ children and heirs of George Swope desceand allegeing in his said petition that the said George Swope the ancestor of the defendants did seize and possess of two certain tracts or parcels of land........." (2) BOOK B p. 129 "Surveyed October the 15th 1828, for Hiram Rogers a_ William Wood, 50 acres of land in Cumberland County on the head drafts of Smith's Creek, by virtue of Kentucky Land office warrant NO. 18120. Beginning at two white oaks, a beech and dead poplar, corner to George Swope, thence with his line, N. 83o W. 33 poles to a beech and lynn, John Wade's corner; thence with his line N. 58o W. 40 poles to a beech, white oak and sugar tree; thence N. 20o E. 33 poles to two poplars and a black oak; thence N. 52o W. 40 poles to a black oak and white oak, thence N. 12o E. 20 poles to three dogwoods, thence N. 40o E.40 poles to a black oak and white oak; thence S. 50o E. 55 poles to an ash; thence N. 70o E. 16 poles to a cedar and hickory above the head of a spring, thence S. 17o E. 76 poles to a stake, thence S. 33o W. poles to the beginning. James Cowan C.C. Wm. Wood D.S. and George Gwinn N.K.s Isaac Taylor William Campbell, Marker" It seems that Swope land and Wade land are to the west of Rogers.
