Hello Everyone, I need help with a family that I've been researching for about a year now and I can't find anything more. I hope there is someone out there that can look in some records somewhere and find something that can help me. Please!!!! This is the family -- Bolin, Francis, head Caroline, wife, born 1856 Ky. Marion, son, born 1882 Ky. Rose Carrie, daughter, born 1885, Russell Co. Ky. Sam, son, born 1889 Ky. May, daughter, born 1897 Russell Co. Ky. There could be more children. I heard from a family member that Caroline was a Neal born in Clinton, Russell or Wayne County. She was said to have two brothers, Joe and Willie Neal. Can anyone find her parents? I was told by a family member that Francis Bolin married twice. They only remembered a possible daughter, from the first marriage by the name, Laura Bolin. He was said to have had 18 children??? Can you find ANYTHING on him? Rose Carrie and May Bolin were born and married in Russell Co. Ky. They married brothers, Thomas and Floyd Smith. Tom and Carrie are buried in the Grider Cemetery in Russell Co. Ky. On Rose Carrie's marriage bond it says "Lula, Russell Co. Ky." Does anyone know where Lula was back in the 1900-1910? Can you help me find something on Francis Bolin and the parents of Caroline Neal? Thank you for your time and understanding! Since I have been unable to find out any information on my Bradshaw, Brown, Hall, Williams and James lines, I have a couple of theories: 1. They were dropped off a spacecraft in the Adair County area sometime around 1800 with no money and no prospects. Sort of like a Survivor episode. Possibly they were evicted from some far-away planet. However, they did have a talent for having good-looking descendants. In any case, Ancestry at this time has no records on people from other planets, which is just slightly less than they have on Adair County. 2. They were all in a witness protection program. Undoubtedly they all saw some atrocious crime being committed and had to change their names in order to protect themselves. Seriously, I would appreciate any info on Bradshaws, Browns, Halls, Williams and James from Adair County (and also Russell County). Thanks. Alene

The Freedom of Information Act is a tool that is available to everyone. The request is free but it can be very confusing. You have to know where to send it, you have to have the right request form, a properly worded letter, you have to know what type of information they need to get you what you are looking for. You cannot just send in a generic "find this" request. I found a way to use FOIA in genealogy to request records that actually results in moving your search along. In my every day professional legal work I use the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) to acquire records from all areas. Using the proper request, the proper form, a properly worded letter you will get the documentation you are seeking. I received 84 pages in the first probate request, two weeks later, an additional 124 pages. All stuff they copied from microfiche. At $ .10 per page. Some of these records went back to 1838! I will send you the forms (both State and Federal), sample request letters, what you need to send them in terms of specifics, if you have them, or if not, where and how to find them. I have compiled a list of each State’s statutes and codes that you will need to reformat the request form for your particular State or the State you are sending the request to. I have included some specific searching directions and examples that may help you. For those of us who have been unable to get to an out-of-town location or to afford a researcher it's great. My email contact is or genealogyprincess@hotmail.com not the email listed on this posting. Or simply follow the directions below! I will be happy to help anyone with any additional information or reformatting the forms for other states, other data requests, etc. Any other requests for help, I will send a form. I have to request $6.58 for paper, copying, staples, large envelope and postage costs. This package of information is 22+ pages (and growing) -- and I had no idea this would be responded to in such huge numbers (!!). So, if you*re interested, send $6.58 in cash or check [Kathy Lawler] to Genealogy Princess, 20757 Camden Square, #210, Lathrup Village, MI 48076 or use my Paypal address [checking] for $7.00 to kathlee13@yahoo.com or genealogyprincess@hotmail.com. Either way, don’t forget your address!! I will send you the information the very day I receive your address and funds. Lastly, additional information, new ways I can come up with to use FOIA will be sent to you free of charge and I*ll also be happy to answer any questions you may have. Be assured that I am not making any database of addresses or anything, I promise not to ever, ever sell your name and address to anyone. This is strictly to get you information that will help you gather documents and information to further your search for your ancestors. Very lastly, I have a larger bunch of information in my "FOIA IN GENEALOGY WORKS! on Ebay. Check that out! Thanks! Kathleen Lawler

My ancestor Reverend Larkin CRAIG is said to have taught at "Kentucky College" in Adair CO. This would have been around 1820. It may be that over the years the institution changed its name or was absorbed into another school (or it may just have closed). Can anyone tell me about "Kentucky College"? Does anyone know of a college (of any name) in that region of Kentucky that was founded as early as that? Please contact direct. Thanks.
