Abt. 1834 in Adair Co. and d. 1865 I believe in Green Co. Ky. or near Green and Adair line. He was shot and killed by a woman whose husband was killed by the vigillandies because he robbed a place. John Martin belonged to the vigillandies and may have possibly been the one who shot him. Does anyone know this story or where I might find information on it. This info is what has been passed down in the family. John married Martha A. (Pasty) Sharp and had two children; Joseph and John Hickman Martin, my ggrandfather. I wonder if John is related someway to the Hartwell Martin line? Thanks for any help on this. Joyce

English, then of Houston, Texas, published a softcover book, “Descendants of Charles F. English” which ever since has been used by me in my quest for data and other descendants of the English family. Luther passed away in 2000 and left his vast library of information to the Genealogy Department of the Houston Public Library. His book continues in use by many “English” family researchers. While any information on Descendants is welcome, this letter focuses in on the family of one of the children of Charles Harris English (1820-1894) and his fourth wife, Amanda Melvina Royse (1840-1920): Robert Stephen English, their youngest child. Robert was my grandmother’s uncle. According to my sources, Robert married Cruse Baker in 1901 in Adair County, Kentucky. All of her days, my grandmother called them “Uncle Bob and Aunt Cruse”. In the 1950’s and into the 60’s, my Grandmother, Queenie Lavelle Garrett Sears (1895-1977), (then living in Arlington, Texas) would receive two or three letters weekly from her kinfolks back in Kentucky. Fairly often, there would be a letter from “Uncle Bob’s” family. According to my sources, these are the children recorded to Robert Stephen and his wife, Cruse Baker English: Son Charles B. English 1902 Daughter Clyde English 1905 Daughter Nancy English 1908 Daughter Thelma English 1915 Son Robert R. English 1918 Daughter Naomi English 1921 Son George S. English 1924 Son Herschel A. English 1928 //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// I would like to make contact with any descendants of this English family. I am a GGGs of Robert Stephen English’s father, Charles Harris English. I am Richard Pullen. I answer my email address, txgmajor@eaze.net and txgmajor@hotmail.com , daily. I will appreciate contact from this family. Thanks in advance for your consideration.

    1. [KYADAIR] CALDWELL Church, Adair Co.: History of it?
    2. Since my great-grandmother was a CALDWELL from the Adair-Green area, I would like to find out the history of the Caldwell Church. It is east of Knifley, north of Road 1104, in the area between Allen Cemetery Road, Blair Ridge Road, and Barnett Creek Road. I have never been there so do not know the exact address and location of the church. I would particularly like the history of this church, including which CALDWELL it was named for, and what their role in the church and the community was. If anyone knows the address of the church, or of its pastor, I could write directly to ask for information. Please email me with any and all information you may know or have about this church. I will greatly appreciate it. Martha Penick LAMKIN mplamkin@aol.com Researching surnames: CALDWELL CABELL COFFEY SANDERS PAGE PRICE PENICK OWEN THOMPSON SPROWL HATCHER MANN ASPER ROMINE KELTNER ETC.

    1. Re: [KYADAIR] Re: GILKEY-POWELL-WRIGHT
    2. DC: I think we have several lines in common. I am a descendant of the Wrights of Adair Co. KY. The Gilkey name figures into the Sparks line, as Josiah Sparks Jr. married Anna Gilkey in 1827 in Adair Co. The given name Powell was used several times in my Wright families. I have never known the connection to the Powells. My Wright gg grandparents are Thomas Ownsby Wright and Jane Phillips Sparks of Adair Co. KY and Sangamon Co. IL. What is your Wright connection? Were the Powells and Wrights related, or just neighbors? Nancy Sicotte
