Surnames: Phelps, Darnell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RAB.2ACI/2370.2369.1.1.1.1.2 Message Board Post: Marilyn, I am researching my wife’s family, the Darnell family of Adair, Russell, and Taylor counties in Kentucky. She descends from Franklin A. Darnell to James Land Darnell to Luther Elbert Darnell and his wife, Stella Mae Hayes. She was the youngest of 10 children. Her older sisters knew the wife of James Land Darnell as Cytha (sometimes Sitha) Adeline Phelps, and census records from 1880, 1900, and 1910 appear to confirm. Census records for 1860 and 1870 identify a Sitha (Sytha) as the daughter of William Phelps. I noticed your message of 31 May 2002 identifying the descendents of Shadrach Phelps, and you listed Cyntha (Syntha) A. Phelps b. 1848 in Russell County as marrying James A. Darnell; my question is, are two persons the same as Cytha (Sytha) Adeline Phillips and James Land Darnell? Second question: The 1850 census for Russell County lists Franklin Darnel, age 39, with Adeline age 25, and the third person enumerated is Sintha Phelps. The 1860 census for Adair county lists Franklin Darnell, age 50, wife is Kissiah A., age 36, and they have 5 children, the oldest being James Land Darnell. In the 1870 census for Russell County, this family has Kissie A. Darnell as head of the household, with James L., age 19, and 7 other children. Is/was the wife of Franklin A. Darnell named Kissiah Adeline Phelps, and was Sintha Phelps her mother. A final question; could Kissiah Adeline (Phelps?) Darnell and Cytha (Sytha) Adeline (Phelps) Darnell be related. Finally, I do have information about the descendents of James Land Darnell and Cytha Adeline Phelps, and will be glad to share that information. Lewis Nall

Robert Sinclair{married Estelle J. Burton},Simon or Simeon Sinclair {married ? Bessie Burton?} Mary B Sinclair{married ? Samual "Sam" Burton, you say is living with his in laws as of the 1910 Census {which little community was this } William D.Burton married a Rebecca F.Sinclair bond states her mother was Alzirah, no mention of her father. But this William D.Burton son of Henry J{James ?}Burton and Elizabeth Burton. This is about all i can manage. Do you happen to know if any of these died in Adair Co,Ky and are buried there. Now i have a Samual E.Burton listed as the William D.Burton & Rebbeca F.Sinclair Burton's son. But didn't know for sure if he was the one. The marriage bond list his age as 23 making his birth abt 1886, and i had a date from census 1881, so this is possiable wrong. Could you post exact family status for me from the 1910 census. And does any of this come up in your data files. Thank you for answering me. I will have more questions for you. Also you say Lena Sinclair wasn't listed in the 1900 census was her family listed. The 1910 census i believe does mention her. I think her name is mis spelled as Lura Burton. She is 24 years old living at her fathers, Phillip Hamilton Sinclair. Sam Burton is also living in this household as Hamilton's Son-in-law. I think we can safely say this is the right couple. I have this particular Sam Burton being the the son William Burton and Rebecca E. Sinclair. Is that what you have? My grandpa remembers Phillip Sinclair Well. He said they always called him "Ham". His wife Margaret Burton ws the daghter of Cornelius Burton and Elizabeth Warf. I am a descendent of Margarets brother, Thomas Collier Burton who marrid Kissiah "Cussie" Hictoria Judd. Ham Sinclairs kids married back into the Burton's pretty heavily. I have six of his eight children marrying Burtons!! Jason Harmon

Is this the Thomas MANN who married Prudence BLANKENSHIP in Campbell Co. VA on 30 Sep 1800 (Campbell Co.VA Marriage Register, page 103).I also found an entry for Thomas MANN in Adair Co KY in the 1840 Fed Census. If this is the same Mann family, does anyone know who his children were? When did they come to Kentucky and where did they first settle? Also, when did he and Prudence die and where are they buried? 3. I don't find her in any census for Adair. There are two Lena Burton in 1930 census for Adair, one age 23 and one age 38. Neither would be a match based on age. As for your Phillip H Sinclair, is he one and the same as the one that I show below. His wife was a Burton also. Phillip Hamilton SINCLAIR (b.6 Sep 1859 Green River Valley, Adair County, Kentucky d.1 Mar 1948) sp: Margaret A. BURTON (m.23 Jan 1879) I know the two families were close.
