Brence was b 6 Aug 1887, in Columbia, Adair, KY to Jerimiah Wilson and Mary Todd; and died 22 Apr 1970 in Sacramento, Sacramento, CA. I have been unable to find any further reference to the parents in any census or other records - even after searching, with assistance, at the Family History Library in Salt Lake. Any assistance is appreciated. Thank you, Frank
THANK YOU EDITH and PEGGY... Help has been incoming from another knowledgable person as well. Part of my delimma has been in determining just WHAT TYPES of records are kept there as well as how the INDEXES for those records are arranged. For instance, I see now that Wills are available ...so my next question would be how to locate one using the availble index... Is the index alphabetical for a number of years, OR are they listed by year first, and then alphabetical.. In other words, I know that I can't hope or expect that the Clerk will go searching through these records without an index and then only if the index is set up in such a way that a search can be performed in a minimal ammount of time. The first search I would like to perform is for a SUSPECTED deed of sale for land in the year 1816. Understanding how they are arranged in the index , if available, would help me better communicate to the Clerk just what it is that I am after , OR perhaps, the knowledge of the indexing available, would tell me that what I am requesting is just too general and time consuming for the clerk to deal with. Thanks for the tip on the Watson book. I'll keep my eyes peeled for it.. Thanks Again for the help.. Sherry PS.. I am researching the McDowell Family and their available records at Adair for the years 1808 - 1838...plus or minus a bit.

Sorry about the empty post, when I hit enter from subject it sends it. Michael C. Watson has published books on Wills and Death Records in Adair Co. I've also seen a book on mortality schedules but I'm not sure now where. I think it was in my local genealogical library, which is quite extensive. The last address I have for Watson is 204 High Street, Columbia, KY 42728. I think he may have moved, but they would maybe forward his mail. You can also get info on these books from Adair Co. Genealogical Society. It's only $10.00 to join the Society, I think, the and you can get other books from them also. Hope this helps. Peggy Guinn Bowen
All county records were sent to the Kentucky State Archives, P.O. Box 537, 300 Coffee Tree Road, Frankfort, KY 40602-0537.

Like Joy, I too would really love some help understanding just what records are available at the County Clerk and what type of indexing may exist there for the records . I am familiar with the two published bookks by the Poe's concerning Court Orders for the years 1802-1808 and 1809-1813. Are there indexes at the clerk's office concerning Wills and Deeds ? Can anyone share their personal experience concerning the acquisition of these types of records from the Clerk at Adair ? Any suggestions would be a great help..Thank you Sherry
Can anyone on this list tell me where I can find Adair Co. Death records between 1815 and 1860? I'm also trying to find a Will from 1859. I have the book and page but don't know where to send a request for copy. I tried Adair County Clerk and was told they don't have them. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks Joy
