Jeff Murphy, founder of the KYGenWeb and USGenWeb Projects as well as the U.S. Biographies project, has passed away. I did not know this gentleman personally, but what he has done for the world-wide endeavors of genealogy, will never be forgotten. His dedication and forethought have brought us all to the point we are today. He will be sadly missed by all. Posted on: Adair County Ky. Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ky/Adair/12890 Surname: Evans, Rather, Reed, Wheat ------------------------- Levi Wheat of Roane Co., TN is said to have three wives. The marrieage record showed him married to Katy Delian on Oct. 12, 1827 in Roane Co. The name was mis-spelt and should be Catherine Dillon, she died between 1860 and 1870 and had about twelve children by him. My GG grandfather John Wheat first known son of Levi probably was born near 1800 and died in 1827. He married Nancy Rather daughter of Jesse Rather formally of Virginia. I can not verify anything about Levi H. Wheat Senior's heritage, but would love to find a documented source someday.

I had a GGG grandfather a Levi Henderson Wheat who died in Roane Co., TN in 1849, some people researching the Wheat line have indicated he may have been the same Levi as in Adair. In Roane Co. little early history is known about Levi as he was from Virgina and showed up about 1805. Some of his descendents moved to Allen Co., KY. Would anyone have information on Adair's Levi Wheat?

Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ky/Adair/12879 Surname: Murrell ------------------------- My ancestor Jesse Murrell, b. 1774 in Amherst Co. VA was a brother to John Murrell, Jr. that is your ancestor. Jesse married Sarah Lobban (Lobbin), who was a sister to Mary Garth "Polly" Lobban. I know they moved with their father to Adair Co. Ky. and lived there many years and are buried there. I have not been able to definitely verify any further back. -- Would like to know for sure who their mother is. I have their father listed as John Murrell, Jr., but think he must have been Sr. My husband's ancestor William Murrell, b. 1769-70 is probably a brother or half-brother to John Jr. and Jesse, as we have info showing that their father John Murrell paid taxes in VA on the 3 sons, William, John, and Jesse, as they all turned 16. William went to Cocke Co. TN. We have info that his mother's surname was Lax. Anything else would be much appreciated!! Please contact me at [email protected]

James struck by lightening and killed circa 1889's in Adair/Metcalfe County. James Allen Hurt m. Nancy Bell England (daughter of Amos England and Sarah Ann Jessee). His brother, Charlie. His sister, Kitty. Kitty's daughter, Mattie m. Turner J. Poland. Mattie and Turner lived in Glasgow, KY. Both dead by 1960's. James was a cousin of William Walker Hurt whose 2nd wife was Dicey England (Nancy Bell's sister.) Nancy Bell is incorrectly listed in Ancestry.com family tree as well as LDS Site as Alice Bell England. She was my grandmother and is buried along with James Allen Hurt in Spraytown Cemetary, Spraytown, Indiana. Her brother, Burl A. England (incorrectly listed as Charles England) is buried in Columbus, Indiana (about 12 miles from Spraytown, In.) My grandfather, James Allen Hurt seems to have been related to 2 branches of the Hurt family in Adair and Metcalfe County. Chalmous and Barbry Allen Hurt are also his cousins. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if I can get the right links, I may have info to share. Thank you. Joyce B.
