Posted on: Adair County Ky. Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ky/Adair/12968 Surname: England ------------------------- Many of you kind people have been in touch with me off-list with words of sympathy and advice. The strong consensus seems to be that the records should be placed back in Adair County with the Historical/Genealogy Society there so that they would be available for others to use. There have also been several suggestions that I give them to the LDS (an acronym with which I happen to be familar, but I might caution that not all casual visitors to this site would be). This is the path towards which I am inclined. I want to thank each respondant. I do not have to make a decsion right now, and I do want the members of my family to have time to consider whether or not they might make use of the information.

Posted on: Adair County Ky. Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ky/Adair/12965 Surname: england, janes ------------------------- My father, Ernest Janes England, of Columbia, Adair County, Kentucky died this week at the age of 84. Earlier in his life he spent a great deal of time compiling data on the England/Janes/Sparks family genealogy. He self-published a book. Please forgive me if I am not posting in the proper area, but I need advice on what to do with his material. I will not pursue his interest, and, as yet, no other family member has indicated interest. His research was done in the pre-computer era, so it mainly consists of photocopies of orginal documents gleaned from many visits to local courthouses, etc. There are many looseleaf notebooks of material, as well as correspondence with other genealogists. I would not want to dispose of the results of his efforts, but neither would I want it collecting dust in one of our attics. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Posted on: Adair County Ky. Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ky/Adair/12957 Surname: Bryant, DeMoss ------------------------- Hi! I am also interested in finding more information on Nancy Bryant who married Charles DeMoss. She was alive in 1846 when she is listed in the 1st Suit in Equity regarding the estate of John Bryant, deceased as "......Nancy DeMoss, wife of Charles DeMoss......." And Nancy DeMoss (nee Bryant) is still living in 1863 as she is listed as one of the heirs when John Bryant's property is finally sold (he died in 1841) "This indenture made and entered into this 24th day of May 1863 between John Bryant, Sallie Bryant, Dominicus Conover, William Bryant, James Bryant, Peter Bryant, Charles Bryant, David Bryant, Charles Demoss & Nancy Demoss, his wife.....etc.." Following is information I have on the mgs. of John Bryant's first 3 children to Demoss'. This information is from other researchers I was in contact with years ago, and I have not personally documented it. Charles DeMoss, son of Peter DeMoss, Sr and Mary Mellinger, married Nancy Bryant 1805 in Adair Co, Ky, dau of John Bryant. I have no further info on this couple. Peter DeMoss, Jr., son of Peter DeMoss, Sr & Mary Mellinger, married Rachel Bryant, dau of John Bryant ch: Nancy Demoss md Elijah Powell 26 Oct 1824, Adair Co, Ky. Elizabeth Demoss md John R. Blair 2 Mar 1833, Adair Co, KY. (Rachel md. #2 Dominicus Conover) Sarah DeMoss, d/o Peter Demoss, Sr. (this researcher states that Peter DeMoss, Sr is the son of Charles DeMoss), md. George Bryant, s/o John Bryant 1810 Adair Co, KY. (I have a good bit of info on the descendants of George & Sarah.) George Bryant died 1845 in Morgan Co, Ind. Sarah (DeMoss) Bryant lived near Cainsville, Harrison Co, Missouri in 1860. Sarah (DeMoss) Bryant died 1878 in Harrison Co, Missouri. Information about Nancy Bryant who md. Charles DeMoss might prove helpful in our Bryant research - such as her death record, either from vital statistis records or a bible record that might be in possession of a descendant. Thanks for any help you could give. Brenda
Posted on: Adair County Ky. Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ky/Adair/12956 Surname: Bryant, DeMoss ------------------------- I was looking through what I had for the Demoss side of the family. No Potts or Pottingers though. I did notice that George W. Bryant was the THIRD husband of Sarah DeMoss. 1) John N. Barker md. June 18, 1806 2) John DeMoss md. December 7, 1809 3) George W. Bryant md. September 19, 1810 She either got divorced alot or her husbands kept dying on her. I don't have who John DeMoss was connected to. I had 11 children for Peter DeMoss and Mary Mellinger. When was the first wife? I have no record of her. Preble County Ohio is where Peter DeMoss (husband of Rachael Bryant) died, so there is a definite connection there. I think we finally found a family as confusing as the Bryants!!
Posted on: Adair County Ky. Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ky/Adair/12955 Surname: DeMoss, Bryant ------------------------- Well, I am sure of virtually nothing, but here goes... I have two children listed: Peter John DeMoss born 24 Sep 1806 in Kentucky, died 20 Aug 1855 in Cass Co., Indiana, and who married Lavinia Myers (Morris) 25 Jan 1827 in Preble Co., Ohio. (ten children listed for them). There is SOME information on this family in a book called "Counties of White and Pulaski Counties, Indiana" by F. A. Battery and Co., published 1883. The other child is Nancy DeMoss, born about 1907, and I don't have anything about her. The children are listed under (another?) wife I have for Charles, Nancy Pottenger, but the birthdates fit the marriage with Nancy Bryant. Does "Pottenger" ring a bell or sound like anything you've heard? Another marriage for Nancy? Oh, Incidentally, Charles isn't the child of Mary Mellinger, but of first wife --- Potts. Help me think this through.
