    1. Re: Susan Williams
    2. William Williams was the bondsman for the marriage of William Overton and Susan Williams (12 Oct 1825). Perhaps that might give you a clue. Other Adair County Marriages that might help: John Williams and Malinda or Belinda Berry, dau of William. John son of William Williams. Attest Daniel Walbert. Married 12 Feb 1830 by King. Thomas Williams and Lydia Barry, dau of William. Attest Daniel Walbert. Bond dated 10 Feb 1830 by King William Williams and Jane Vannoy. Mentions Nathan Miller. Married 5 July 1819 by S. B. Robertson. William Williams and Perlina Sanders. Married 1 april 1828 by Taylor. William Windows and Milly Carlton Rowe, dau of Thomas Rowe. Attest Robert Moore. Married 5 Feb 1828 by Abell. Hope this will be of help.

    1. Re: Susan Skaggs
    2. Just in case you aren't aware of this, THOMAS SKAGGS was the bondsman for the marriage of John J. Richardson and Susan Scaggs (Bond dated 16 July 1831). This clue should help you to find her family.

    2. Lorelei, I am very sorry but I have written a lengthy post 3 times and each time I try to post them I get "this page cannot be displayed". I presume they are all lost. These boards are a mess. It is late and I just can't try again tonight. I'll just bypass this site and email you within the next couple of days. Hope this goes through. Brenda

    2. Kathy, You and my husband are cousins - probably 1st cousins. Fred is a son of Norman Venaas and grandson of Bennett Venaas. It's exciting to hear of someone, ANYONE, interested in researching the Venaas family. Are you a daughter of Burton Venaas?? Let's carry this conversation on through email. 2. Does anyone know how to get a hold of anyone at the Mt. Gilead Church which borders Adair and Green Counties? I was hoping they have a historian there who can help with old church records. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jeanie

    1. Re: Nancy Bryant DeMoss
    2. Okay - now I'm pretty thoroughly confused. I have that particular Nancy as having died 22 feb 1859 and buried in Bethel Methodist Church Cem in Cass Co Indiana. I have Charles there too, having died 27 Dec 1860. I have Charles also married to a Nancy Pottenger (who may be the same person?) I have two children for this marriage - Peter John DeMoss, b 24 sep 1806 and d 20 aug 1855 in Cass Co Indiana and Nancy DeMoss born about 1807 (These birth dates are why I wondered if Nancy Pottenger is Nancy Bryant, as Nancy Bryant married Charles in 5 Dec 1805 in Adair Co Ky). Peter married Lavinia Morris and had several kids. I can't say for certain who Peter DeMoss who married Mary Mellinger 's dad is, but the Charles theory has been around and is probably not correct. My direct ancestor Charles did have a son Peter, but it was the Peter who married Catherine Houseman. If Peter who married Mary Mellinger is the son of a Charles, I've yet to see any proof of it or even any compelling evidence. Could you give me some low-down on the sibs of Rachel George and Nancy? I know about them chiefly because of their DeMoss connection and have no dates. Do you have anything on the parents - John DeMoss and Elizabeth (perhaps Hardin/Harden)? Thanks

    1. Re: Bryant's & DeMoss
    2. If it helps, the Sarah who married John Barker is a different gal, from a different family altogether. He is John Hamilton Barker and she is the daughter of Peter DeMoss and Catherine Houseman. These guys lived pretty near where I live now, and I have sorted them out. And the Sarah Barker who married John DeMoss was really Sarah Barker (and not the widow DeMoss) She was the daughter of Joseph Barker and Nancy Hamilton and the sister of John Hamilton Barker. That Sarah Barker is my gggg grandmother. She pretty solidly documented. So I hope this de-complicates this line a bit for you. I am still pounding away at the DeMoss/Mellingers.

    2. Hi Just to let you know, I am one of the grandchildren of Clem and Ethel Cowan. I am the daughter of Gilbert Cowan and Gladys (McQueary). Clem passed away long before I was born. Granny (Ethel) talked of a Texas connection with Papa Clem but no one knew exactly who or what. According to stories, Clem was a widdower when he married Ethel. He had one child with his first wife. Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] Its a small world after all. Thanks Gina Cowan Douget
