Hi Bruce, I can't find out the name of my GGGgrandfather seen spellings as RODGERS/ROGERS. This is all I do know.... (______)RODGERS/ROGERS married to Nancy (_____). They had two children: Martha Ann b.1835 KY Hiram F. b.1835 KY On the Adair Co,KY. 1850 census I found Nancy remarried to a Joseph EAST. Joseph EAST was also married before to a Nancy RUSSELL she died 1835. Since my Nancy RODGERS/ROGERS had children with Joseph also on that census and the first one one born 1836 and Joseph EAST first wife died 1835 I'm thinking that they had to of both gotten married 2nd time within a year or so. hmmmmm. I can't my my ROGERS/RODGERS line I'm so stuck! Would you look at your line and see if anything clicks? Thank You, Theresa Rogers Griffiths

Hi Carrie, I see several messages from you this afternoon. I'm a descendant of James Pike b 1822, son of William & Lydia Pike. He was b in Adair Co., KY but raised in Hancock Co., IL. He married Mary Troxel in 1845 in Keokuk Co, IL. They moved to Texas in 1852 and on to Oregon in 1854. I still haven't figured out who the cousin Joe Hardin was that he went to Texas to see. I'll be happy to share my notes & ancestor outline if you'd like. Please send me your e-mail address. Mine is [email protected] & I'm in New Hampshire. My James had a daughter named Sintha Ann, b in Oregon & died as a child. Hope to hear from you again soon. Jackie
Yes, we are talking about the same James Pike. I am a descendant of his son John Ely Pike 1832-1906 and John's wife Mary (Page) 1836-1911.
Hoping to find others working on this Sexton line: William G. SEXTON, (b. 1808 in Green Co., KY.; d. 1870-1880 prob. in Hart Co., KY.) married Mary Ann YATES (b. 1815 in KY./IN.; d. 8 Sep 1861 in Metcalfe Co., KY.) on 16 Jun 1831 in Adair Co., KY. She was the d/o Michael and Rachael Yates. They were in Adair Co., KY. 1840 census; Barren Co., KY. 1850 census; Metcalfe Co., KY. 1860 census. William is in the 1870 Hart Co., KY. census in the home of Joseph and Susannah PRIDDY. William G. and Mary Ann had the following children: [1] Margaret Ann SEXTON was b. 1830-1832 in Adair Co., KY. and d. 1886 in Sangamon Co., IL. Believe she was the second wife of Noah Jacob (Jacob) BLISSETT and that they married in the early 1860s in either Metcalfe or Hart Co. They are in the 1870 Hart Co. census "next door" to John and Therissa SUDDETH. I think that Therissa was Margaret Ann's sister (below). By 1880, Margaret and Noah Jacob were in Sangamon Co., KY. where quite a few of the Sexton, Yates and related families ended up. Their children were: Henrietta (b. 1868); George William (b. 1869) and James W. (b. 1876). [2] Franklin Graves SEXTON was b. Jun 1833 in Adair Co., KY. and died after 1880, probably in Illinois. He married Nancy PENDLETON(d/o Silas PENDLETON and Nancy ROBERTSON) on 17 Apr 1859 in Hardin Co., KY. They appear in the 1860 Metcalfe Co. census; 1870 Hardin Co. census; 1880 Williamson Co., IL. census. Frank supposedly left KY. after killing a man in some sort of love-triangle, although he was acquitted. He had apparently died by 1900 when his widow is found in Cass Co., IL. Their children were: William S. (b. 1860); Lucetta (b. 1863); Franklin Fillmore (b. 1866); Dolly Anne (b. 1870) and Alvin Thomas (b. 1873). [3] Charles Michael SEXTON was b. 1835 in Adair Co., KY. and died after 1908, probably in Metcalfe Co., KY. He married first Emily P. POINTER, d/o Harrison "Doc" POINTER and his wife Elizabeth CASSADAY, in Jan 1858 in Barren Co., KY. He married second to Birdie WILLIAMS, d/o Moses P. WILLIAMS and his wife Elizabeth CASSADAY (not the same as the Elizabeth above), on 13 Jun 1891 in Metcalfe Co., KY. Charles Michael can be found in the Metcalfe Co., KY. census from 1860-1900. His children, all by his first marriage, were: William H. (b. 1859); Mary J. (b. 1863); John Henry ( b. 1865) and George A. (b. 1870). [4] William H. SEXTON was born about 1837 in Adair Co., KY. He is with his parents in the 1850 and 1860 census, but not found after this. I don't have any further information. [5] George Washington SEXTON was born 10 Jun 1839 in Adair Co., KY. He married Alice E. RANDAL, d/o Amos RANDAL, on 30 Jul 1866 in Hodgenville, Larue, KY. In 1861 he enlisted in company E, Twenty-seventh Kentucky infantry in the union army and served through the war. He was a prisoner for four months at Andersonville. He was in the 1870 census in Priceville District, Hart Co., KY. In the 1880 census, they were in Williamson Co., IL. "next door" to George's brother Frank. George died 11 Sep 1908, at Berlin, Sangamon Co., IL. and is buried in Woodwreath cemetery. They had the following children: Buford Edward (b. 1869); Lily E. (b. 1871); Clara Bell (b. 1873); William Andrew (b. 1876); Clarence Robert (b. 1879); Joseph W. (1882); and Arthur Leroy (b. 1887). [6] John Milton SEXTON was born on 10 Sep 1843 in either Adair or Barren Co., KY. He died 25 Jun 1927 in Glenarm, Sangamon Co., IL. He married Mary Jane CASSADAY (d/o William CASSADAY and Jane LAMBERTH) on 23 Oct 1868 in Metcalfe Co., KY. He is in Metcalfe Co., KY. at the time of the 1870 census, in Hart Co., KY., and in Sangamon Co., IL. for the 1900 census. They had the following children: Robert Lee (b. 1867); Mary Francis "Fanny" (b.1872); Joseph Henry (b.1879); Alfred George (b. 1880); and Alice (b. aft 1880). [7] Therissa SEXTON was born abt 1844 in Adair Co., KY. Believe that she married John SUDDETH, probably a son of Laban SUDDETH, whose family was from Edmonson Co., KY. Have not found a record of this marriage. They are in the 1870 census in Hart Co., KY. and the 1880 census in Edmonson Co., KY. In the 1870 Hart Co. census, they are "next door" to Jacob (Noah Jacob) and Margaret BLISSETT, who I believe to be her sister and brother-in-law. They had the following children: Josephine (b. 1867); Ardelia A. (b. 1868); Mary H. (b. 1869); Ida B. (b. 1873) and Emmet (b. 1877). [8] James F. SEXTON was born abt. 1849 in Barren Co., KY. and d. sometime after George W., his brother, who died in 1908. He was listed as a survivor in George's obituary and apparently stayed in Kentucky. He married Sarah E. WEASE abt. 1872 in Kentucky, but have never found a marriage record. The birth of one of their children in Hart Co., KY. records her name. He is in the 1870 census for Hart Co., KY., in Wallinsford Prect., Hardin Co., KY. in 1880, where he is living "next door" to Frank SALLEE who married Rachael Jane OILER, a cousin of James' and daughter of William OILER and Susan YATES. Susan was his mother's sister. They had the following children: Liccie E. (b. 1872); Margaret A. (b. 1876); and William Harvey L. (b. 1877). [9] Joseph Hartley SEXTON was born in Oct 1855 in Barren or Hart Co., KY. and died after 1920 in Marne, Cass Co., IA. He married first Lydia Ann SHARP, d/o John SHARP and Nancy Ann MANKER on 16 Mar 1892 in Sangamon Co., IL. He married second to Emma ZIEGLER. He is in the 1900 census in Cartwright Twp., Sangamon Co., IL. and the 1910 census in Tallula Prect., Menard Co., IL. He had the following children, all by his first wife: Bert Owen (b. 1892); Edwin B. (b. 1894); Bertha Callie (b. 1899); and Lillie May (b. 1901). Thanks, Steve Loose
If you don't mind my asking, but who were your Cynthia Pike's parents?
According to my information (which isn't carved in stone :o), if you are talking about the James Pike (whose father is William Pike b. Dec., 1830) - he couldn't have gone to Texas in 1852 because he wasn't born until abt. 1874. However, I do have a James Pike (b. abt. 1803/Williams's father) who had a son, Aaron Rice Pike (b. June, 1840) that married a Martha Ellen Harden (b. August, 1844). Is that a possibility?
Hi - When you say James Pike is your GGGgrandfather, would that be the James Pike born abt 1803 and married an Anne Smith? He would be my GGGgrandfather also!!
Read your remarks about the Chockley Line. I didn't know that Richard's and (my line) Burril Elam's mother was a widow when she went to McDonough County, Illinois. I haven't found anything in Kentucky either. I know there is an Adairville, Kentucky. Would love finding something farther back also. My findings suggest that Richard's and Burill Elam's father might have been Watson. Please contact me. Louise
