    1. [KY-ROLLCALL] Mason Co. Roll Call/Berry-Dougherty-Baldwin-Prior
    2. HI: I'm researching MOSES BERRY of Mason County. I have figured out he was born ca. 1819-1821 and died in 1901 in Brown County, Ohio. I'm now trying to trace his parents -- the name we have is JUDA(H), which may be the father or the mother. Moses was an ex-slave who enlisted in the U.S. Colored Troops and was at Camp Nelson just before the Civil War ended. His last slave owner was MILTON DOUGHERTY, who purchased Moses and his son ALEXANDER from the estate of ROBERT H. BALDWIN. So he did not get his surname from the last slave owner. My question -- where did Moses get the Berry surname? I have checked tax lists and wills of Berrys dating back to the 1790s but no luck finding a "JUDAH" although I did find a "JUBA". I'm also trying to figure out where Moses' wife MARIAH (nee PRIOR, they got married in 1854) and their two children ARTHUR and BELLE were while Moses and Alex were owned by Baldwin. Have not been able to find SEYMOUR and PARMITIA (PRIOR), Mariah's parents, either. I believe there was 1 slave owner, JOHN PRIOR, large landowner/slave owner in the county, but I haven't gotten any further than that. Research suggestions welcome! KBerry
