Believe me I have chased down several people who didn't exist. Not only did I look for a Sarah Buckler Ramey born around 1825 who never existed (her name was Delilah Buckler Ramey) but I searched for years for Polly Coy. When the internet and rootsweb entered my life I learned that Coy used to be spelled Caughey and that Polly was sometimes a nickname for Mary (go figure). Then I found her! Mary Anne Caughey - not real close to Polly Coy. Also - remember that if you are getting info from an obit or death certificate that info is only as reliable as the source who gave it to the funeral home. My great uncle's death certificate (from the 1920's) has listed as survivor a daughter named Nell. Nell was not his daughter. She was his niece (who had a completely different last name) who lived with him.
