Article Text: Owensboro, Ky., September 12.--Wm. A. WASHINGTON, the nearest relative of the first President of the United States, died at this place after a brief illness. He was born in Virginia in 1800, and came to Kentucky when a boy of 12 years. He was a gentleman of superior accomplishments, and was in every way worthy of the illustrious name he bore. He was never married. About ten years ago the President of a national bank in Philadelphia learned of his existence and his place of residence and proceeded to raise a fund for him. Gen. GRANT, President GARFIELD, Vice-President ARTHUR, and other prominent men subscribed to the fund. The amount raised was $1000, and the old gentleman's pride would barely let him accept it.
