Lexington Detective Chief Joe Harrigan said Mrs Bessie Smith related her husband, E L Smith had threatened her and had refused to give money to her and their sons. Smith was bludgeoned fatally early Saturday while the sons, Emmett, 17, and Ray 29, slept in an adjoining room.
