I would like to thank all who responded to my queries. Also I wish you and all readers of this list a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. SILAS FANNIN, b. about 1822 in Kentucky, parents unknown at this point. He married Mary ("Polly") FERGUSON. He had Confederate military service in the Civil War with the 10th Kentucky Cavalry. He performed marriages in Wayne County, 1870 to 1887. After 1887 - unknown. I think it is possible that Silas, Mary, G.W., Mary Bell, and Calista left with Kentucky relatives by train to an area in Wisconsin known as "Little Kentucky." Ive learned that several eastern Kentucky families went there in the late 1800s for jobs in mining and forestry and a new life. Many who responded to my queries have done a search nationwide using programs of Heritage Quest, Ancestry.com, and others. Silas doesnt show up in these searches, so it is easy to assume he died between 1887 and 1900, but that is not necessarily so. In 1900, he would have been only 78--he could have lived that long. It is posted on the Internet that Silas and Mary died in Wyoming County, WV; Silas in 1890 and Mary in 1904. The same source gives their marriage data as 1845 in Cabell County, WV, and also said Rebecca died in 1940 in McDowell County. My research finds no such information in those counties nor statewide. Whoever made these statistics up has considered the facts and made the data fit. Children of Silas and Mary (Ferguson) Fannin: 1. THEODORE FANNIN, b. about 1845 Va. Listed as Theadore in 1850 and 1860 Wayne census. Died 1865 of disease, POW, Camp Chase, Ohio. 2. EASTON S. FANNIN, b. about 1848 in Kentucky; married JULIA HORN. Easton and his descendants appear to be the only descendants of Silas and Polly (Ferguson) Fannin who remained in West Virginia. He died from being hit by a C&O train engine in Huntington, WV. 3. REBECCA FANNIN, born April 1850. [My gt. grandmother, she m. 1st, 1868 REECE CARL WORKMAN, div. 1877; allegedly married 2nd, unknown. RS] 4. JEREMIAH FANNIN, b. 14 September 1855. (listed as Robert A. in 1860 Census, and Jenmiah in 1870 Census.) He must have died young, because he was not listed in the 1880 census. 5. JOHN A. FANNIN, b. 22 July1857. He died 21 January 1923 at Odds, Johnson, Kentucky. 6. THOMAS JEFFERSON FANNIN, b. 2 June 1860; married DOROTHY WEBB. He died in Ashland, Boyd, Kentucky, 8 March 1940. Birth records, information given by Silas, father, record his birth date as 2 June 1860; other records say 22 June. No mention of siblings in his obit. 7. GEORGE WASHINGTON FANNIN, b. about 1862. In 1880 census, but nothing further. 8. MARY BELLE FANNIN, b. about 1864. In 1880 census but nothing further. 9. CALISTIA F. FANNIN, b. 9 July 1866. Birth record given by Silas Fannon, father. In 1880 census, but nothing further. WILLIAM ("WILL") FANNIN, b. about 1868; married MALINDA OSBORNE. He was probably dead by 1900 as Malinda was listed as "widow." If anyone finds mention of Silas, Mary ("Polly"), George Washington, Mary Belle, or Calistia Fannin after 1887, please send info to rhsayre@excite.com. Thank you.
