For a number of years she had been in ill health that was due to infirmities of her greatly advanced age. Her death occurred at the same farm where on August 10, 1839, she was born. She was a woman who was greatly beloved by all the community. She was the daughter of the late Col. John P. Allen and the widow of Thornton Meriwether, at one time one of the largest land owners in this county. Mrs. Meriwether is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Sue Thornton Henning. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.R. Anderson at the Presbyterian church at 10 o’clock Wednesday morning.
