Do know your frustration. Do Not feel that you are alone. With what you have recieved to date you need to go to the county of origion and obtain certification on the birth dates, marriages etc. Also it is very benificial I have learned to have copies of each of the census that the name appears. This will give you other children in the family and a look at who the neighbors were. Some times they are family. The last name may not ring a bell but look to see who the wife is. She may be a sister or an aunt that you heard of mentioned but never knew her married name. Don't for get to consider other the Library. I found there are some who have microfich rolls of news papers back into the early 1800's. These are great in finding who was born, married, died, etc. Make copies of what you find and be sure you copy, the news papers name and the date. Make sure you have dates on every thing you find plus where you found it. Hope this is some help. Ok, I admit my blinders have been on for a year or so searching for my g grandfather. I thank-you all for putting up with all my repeated pleas and questions for help. Some even sent me the Census and said they thought that this was him, but of course it was a name different from what I had. BUT OOOOOOOOO no, I was still sticking to the name I knew, the name everyone knew and what was on the Census. HMMM now could I be wrong??? >>THICK BLINDERS ON HERE>> It wasn't until I had gotten my g grandmothers funeral papers that I even started to take the blinders off. More like trying to peak around them. Everything I had in documents, Census, and from family members that were alive recalled her as Antha or Anthy TURNER. Not until I received her funeral papers from what used to be Casebier Funeral home is now Danks, did I start to think. (Ouch) On the top as a title it said The Funeral for Elizabeth TURNER. WHAT? Elizabeth? Never heard of that name, I thought for sure it was the wrong funeral. But as I read down further I saw they listed her as Mrs. Galen TURNER. That was my g grandfather plus there were other family members listed that send flowers. HMMM, now I have a new name for my grandmother and a new aka for my g grandfather. He was known as Galey, Gaylon, Gagh, Gailey, Gagly, Felin A. and Finley. On lady had the 1880 Census CD's for all states. She looked for a G. TURNER and out of the list there was one G.C. TURNER who was born in 1865. She had a Fielding I. TURNER born in KY in 1870. My g grandfather was born in Warren County KY Oct. 1868 and died in 1923. He was married abt. 1893. He married Elizabeth "Antha / Anthy" HAZEL, she was also born in Warren County KY on May 16, 1875 and died in Hartford, Ohio County KY. on Aug. 14, 1947. I just came back from a visit with the wife of a 1st cousin 1 time removed who had live with my g grandfather who raised him for sometime. But she knew little of my great grandfather. But it was enough that started taking my blinders off some more. The Census that a few people sent me that matched his birth year gave his name as Fielding TURNER. A name unthinkable to me at the time. It was the 1880 Census in Ohio County, KY that had a Fielding TURNER listed as being 10 years old. That would put his year of birth abt. 1868. Father listed as Reuben TURNER and mother is listed as Ara A. TURNER ( Ann Heaver?) It was the only TURNER born in the year 1868. Had the father has Reuben TURNER in the 1870 Census of Greencastle, Warren County, KY.He was only 2. Seems like I am getting so close, but still no solid information. What is missing with my searches? God Bless Pam
Ok I will take ANY male with the last name TURNER born in 1868 in Warren County Kentucky. He died in 1923, where I do not know. Send them to me. God Bless Pam
Pam, Yes, I am thinking since he is so hard to find that it might be a middle name or possible nickname. The only reason I am coming to that conclusion is that he can't be found anywhere as a child or with his family, especially being born in Warren County Kentucky. Also his wife signed her name on documents as Antha or Anthy TURNER. His named appeared as Gailey on documents. But according to Antha's Funeral Papers she was Elizabeth TURNER (maiden name Hazel), but on Census, her grave marker, papers she signed it was either Antha or Anthy. Because of that incident I figured Galey's name must be a middle name or nickname. He did not know how to read or write but his name appears on his son's birth certificate as Galey. On his grave marker Gale and on Antha's Funeral papers she is listed is also listed as Mrs. Galen TURNER. My aunts and uncles did not know him becasue he died at the age of 55 or so but say they remember his name spoken as Galen. So all in all I think it is a nickname or middle name. Hard one to find. I try to look for the dates of deaths and births close to his. But still have had no luck. Galen was a coalminer. I wonder if he died from some kind of coal mining accident, since he was young. Hope this helps. God Bless Pam
Pam, I checked the KY Death Index CD for 1920-1929. Could not find a listing for a Gale TURNER or TARNER, nor for anyone even close for 1923. Did he have another name; was Gale perhaps a middle name? Looking for an obit for Gale TURNER which is on his grave marker born 1868 in Warren County Kentucky died in 1923 buried in Ohio County Kentucky at the Goshen Cemetery. Trying to find out if it list his mother and father names and his place of death. God Bless Pam
I am trying to find Galen TURNER aka Gale aka Gagh aka Galiey aka Galey aka Gaghly, Felin A. as a child listed with his mother and father and siblings. I know nothing of his immediate family. He was born in Warren County Kentucky in October 1868 and died in 1923- where I do not know. First some history and what I know: He was first found in 1900 Census of Ohio County along with wife Antha TURNER aka Anthy aka Elizabeth (maiden name HAZEL) and children. They were also found in the 1910 Microcode Index and the 1920 Census both of Ohio County Kentucky. They are both buried at the Goshen Cemetery in Ohio County Kentucky but are not listed on the Cemetery list. They are actually buried off the Cemetery property line and down the gully, but they are considered as being buried there. His marker is marked Gale TURNER 1868 - 1923 and hers is Antha TURNER 1875 - 1947. I got a copy of Antha's Funeral papers and it list the funeral as being that of Elizabeth TURNER. It also list her as Mrs. Galen TURNER. So I am now wondering if his name is what he goes by is maybe a middle name or nickname since Elizabeth went by Antha and Anthy on the Census and signed her name as such plus her grave marker says Antha. I know that he was a coalminer in Kentucky. He had some of his children in McHenry Kentucky. Had lived sometime in the Beaver Dam area of Kentucky. He could not read or write. He got married around 1893 > where I do not know, would nice to know then maybe I would have a correct name for him. I have checked with both counties and nothing was found on him nor the marriage. Maybe he was married before since he was a little older than she.. I hope someone can please help me find him as a child. This might help clear up names. God Bless Pam

Can anyone tell me what newspapers there would have been in Harlan or Middlesborro about 1945. Looking for an article ? date unknown, we assume between 1944 and 1946-47. Word of mouth says it existed in the Harlan paper about that time, about a woman who abandoned her children.... Could anyone out there help identify and tell me where I might find such an article? Thank you. Patsy Schmidt Jasper, Indiana
