Dear Barbara, Thank you for reaching out. The Baker I am searching for is Mary Baker married to John H. Baker of Brandy Springs, Garrard County. In the 1930 census, John H. is listed a being 36 and wife Mary as 31. As I understand it, Mary was one of maybe five children of George W. Mitchell and unknown Mary's mother. It is my belief that Mary's mother lived nearby the home of John Mitchell in Brandy Springs. The Mitchell men didn't like to wander far from home to find their women. I also believe that George never married Mary's mother. And the poor thing probably died in childbirth like all the other women the Mitchell men were drawn to. Just thought there might be some information about who Mary's mother and sibliings were. I really know very little. Thanks for reaching out. Warmest regards, Jennifer

Hi Jennifer ! I have Higginbotham and Kelly connections so thought I would ask. Thanks for the response! I am sure it will help to find you some connections! John then brought Mary Kirby to live with the family, and though they were never married, she bore him four children. One of those children was my grandfather, Richard G. Mitchell. There is no record of those last four births. So, I am not directly related to the Higginbothams. Just thought I'd include the name to see if any of them have a record of my Mitchell family. John and Mary were first cousins. He must have loved her a great deal. First, you need to make sure you've got the entire URL. It's a long one and is wrapping to another line. If it's wrapping for you, you need to start here: http://lib.uky.edu/repro/ Click on "Search Database" and the search page will open (which is the URL that I sent the first time). Use the scroll box and pick your county, then click on start search. You'll then get a list of all of the newspapers for the county that have been microfilmed. If your local library doesn't have them (or if you're not anywhere near the library), you can request the ones you're interested in through the inter-library loan. You can also get more specific for your search if you want to. I would like to thank all who contacted me both thru the list and privately. Please forgive me for not responding back to everyone who wrote providing their encouragement and support. I received so many wonderful messages that my inbox was overflowing. Know that your messages were read and greatly appreciated. Good news! The Newspaper Abstracts web site is back up and running properly with the exception of a few small areas. All will be even better than before by the end of August. Many articles that have been submitted in the past few months will also be added in the coming days and we will easily top 12,000 news articles on the site. We are also seeking volunteers to coordinate a county and / or state. You must know how to make web pages and upload them to the site. Anyone interested in helping on this wonderful project is encouraged to apply at: http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/volunteer.html If you can't build web pages or simply don't have the time to coordinate a county or state, you can still help the project by submitting your news items dated prior to 1931. News items can be submitted thru the mail lists or with our online forms at: http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/submitarticles.html Again, thank you for your support and have a wonderful week! Barbara, We all hit hard spots in this life. As a member although silent mostly, I am more concerned with you being well than things on this list. Information can wait. The well being of a person who actually needed the support of the list is what should have happened, instead of the disrespect that you were given. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Toss in the normal daily family life events and surely you can agree that my time has been rather limited this summer. By giving several of the coordinators access to everything needed to manage the site and mail lists in my absence, it never occurred to me that there would be such an episode over my not being available as long as I kept paying the bills, which I did. There were so many other more urgent family matters that deserved my attention that I didn't even think to notify anyone. How many of you would think to notify me when you are going to be gone for a few weeks or months? As the site owner, it should have occurred to me to email someone, but it didn't. Therefore, my fault, yes, but after all, how often does anyone really need me for something related to the site?
