He had been despondent some time and bade his family good-by this morning, saying they would probably see him no more. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ KY-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news! 2006 Year in Review for Newspaper Abstracts - Finding Our Ancestors in the News! Newspaper Abstracts started out over six years ago simply as a place to share old newspaper articles I had in my collection and has grown into a site with hundreds of contributors and over 30,900 articles - with over 9,100 contributed during 2006! There are currently over 1,500 registered members on the Newspaper Abstracts site and over 10,000 subscribers to the various Old-News mail lists. An average of 750 news items are added each month and over 1,317,000 of these articles have been read on the site in just the last 18 months! I wanted to take this time to remind all of our various members, subscribers, contributors and coordinators of some of the features of the site and clarify some others. If you haven't visited the site in a while, I encourage you to stop by soon to take advantage of many of the new features. Old News Articles Old news articles are submitted on the website at http://www.NewspaperAbstracts.com, and on occasion through one of the mail lists, by site visitors, regular contributors along with county and state coordinators. For more information on how to submit news articles and what type of articles are accepted on the site please visit http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/link.php?id=1588 and http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/link.php?id=1590. Mail Lists There are 53 mail lists associated with the Newspaper Abstracts website. Through the miracle of computers, all articles added to the site are automatically sent to two mail lists by the script on the website. The first mail list an article goes to is Newspaper-Abstracts@rootsweb.com. This is the main list for Newspaper Abstracts and has the most traffic - normally over 600 emails per month. The second list the article goes to is the state specific list, for example, an article posted in any county in Missouri is sent to the MO-Old-News@newspaperabstracts.com mail list, an article posted in Illinois goes to IL-Old-News@rootsweb.com, etc. More information, including subscribe and unsubscribe instructions for the mail lists can be found at http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/link.php?id=2339. Acknowledgements The actual submitter of any news article can be found on the website with the article. Under the title of the article is a by-line, which shows the chosen user name of the contributor. When an article is submitted to the site, an email automatically goes out to the appropriate mail lists and subscriber list. These articles are sent to the list from the administrative email address for the Newspaper Abstracts website, which is articles@newspaperabstracts.com. This is NOT the email address of the actual contributor of the news article. To view and/or contact the actual contributor of the article, you will need to follow the link in the email message to the Newspaper Abstracts website. Newspaper Abstracts Registered Members The Newspaper Abstracts website allows visitors to register for a free account. Once registered, the member can choose to subscribe to a specific county and/or state. By subscribing, the member is notified each time a new article is added to the county and/or state that the member subscribed to. To unsubscribe, the member only needs to return to the main page for the county and/or state that they are receiving notifications from and click on unsubscribe. Alternately, a registered member can log in at the site and go to 'Options', then go to 'Manage Subscriptions'. This area will list all county, state and/or specific article pages that you have subscribed to and allow you to unsubscribe from there. A new feature for registered members provides you with another place to post your research information. Under your profile, you can now list items such as your family history web page, surnames you are researching, along with a limited amount of research information. You can set your account to receive private messages as well as have your own guestbook. You may turn these options on or off in your profile setting. The advantage of registering with the site and accepting private messages is in the ability to have others contact you without giving out your email address, thereby reducing the amount of unwanted messages. Posting Restrictions In an effort to thwart inappropriate posts on the site, all postings, including news articles, comments and postings to guestbooks, are subject to approval by the administrator. Once a member has posted a number of appropriate posts, whether as comments, guestbook submissions or article submissions, their account is manually upgraded to a contributor account and their posts are no longer held pending administrator approval, though all postings are still reviewed and subject to removal if not deemed appropriate for the site. And Finally I would like to take this time to thank all of those who have taken the time to submit news items to the site over the past 7 years. Your contributions are greatly appreciated. For a list of the top contributors to Newspaper Abstracts, please visit our homepage at http://www.NewspaperAbstracts.com. I would also like to thank those volunteers who help with specific counties and states. A list of current state and county coordinators can now be found on the site at http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/leaders.php. Many more coordinators are also needed for other areas of the site. To learn more about becoming a state or county coordinator, see http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/link.php?id=2317. Wishing all a wonderful and blessed 2007! I would like to thank all who responded to my queries. Also I wish you and all readers of this list a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. SILAS FANNIN, b. about 1822 in Kentucky, parents unknown at this point. He married Mary ("Polly") FERGUSON. He had Confederate military service in the Civil War with the 10th Kentucky Cavalry. He performed marriages in Wayne County, 1870 to 1887. After 1887 - unknown. I think it is possible that Silas, Mary, G.W., Mary Bell, and Calista left with Kentucky relatives by train to an area in Wisconsin known as "Little Kentucky." Ive learned that several eastern Kentucky families went there in the late 1800s for jobs in mining and forestry and a new life. Many who responded to my queries have done a search nationwide using programs of Heritage Quest, Ancestry.com, and others. Silas doesnt show up in these searches, so it is easy to assume he died between 1887 and 1900, but that is not necessarily so. In 1900, he would have been only 78--he could have lived that long. It is posted on the Internet that Silas and Mary died in Wyoming County, WV; Silas in 1890 and Mary in 1904. The same source gives their marriage data as 1845 in Cabell County, WV, and also said Rebecca died in 1940 in McDowell County. My research finds no such information in those counties nor statewide. Whoever made these statistics up has considered the facts and made the data fit. Children of Silas and Mary (Ferguson) Fannin: 1. THEODORE FANNIN, b. about 1845 Va. Listed as Theadore in 1850 and 1860 Wayne census. Died 1865 of disease, POW, Camp Chase, Ohio. 2. EASTON S. FANNIN, b. about 1848 in Kentucky; married JULIA HORN. Easton and his descendants appear to be the only descendants of Silas and Polly (Ferguson) Fannin who remained in West Virginia. He died from being hit by a C&O train engine in Huntington, WV. 3. REBECCA FANNIN, born April 1850. [My gt. grandmother, she m. 1st, 1868 REECE CARL WORKMAN, div. 1877; allegedly married 2nd, unknown. RS] 4. JEREMIAH FANNIN, b. 14 September 1855. (listed as Robert A. in 1860 Census, and Jenmiah in 1870 Census.) He must have died young, because he was not listed in the 1880 census. 5. JOHN A. FANNIN, b. 22 July1857. He died 21 January 1923 at Odds, Johnson, Kentucky. 6. THOMAS JEFFERSON FANNIN, b. 2 June 1860; married DOROTHY WEBB. He died in Ashland, Boyd, Kentucky, 8 March 1940. Birth records, information given by Silas, father, record his birth date as 2 June 1860; other records say 22 June. No mention of siblings in his obit. 7. GEORGE WASHINGTON FANNIN, b. about 1862. In 1880 census, but nothing further. 8. MARY BELLE FANNIN, b. about 1864. In 1880 census but nothing further. 9. CALISTIA F. FANNIN, b. 9 July 1866. Birth record given by Silas Fannon, father. In 1880 census, but nothing further. WILLIAM ("WILL") FANNIN, b. about 1868; married MALINDA OSBORNE. He was probably dead by 1900 as Malinda was listed as "widow." If anyone finds mention of Silas, Mary ("Polly"), George Washington, Mary Belle, or Calistia Fannin after 1887, please send info to rhsayre@excite.com. Thank you.

It was stated that the receiver was asked for an order to protect Mr Nunemacher's business and his creditors. The petition asks a judgement of $45,000 against the printing company. The petition states that in February of 1910,Mr Nunemacher executed and delivered to the Fidelity Trust company eighty bonds by the terms of which he obligated himself to pay $50 on each bond with interest at 5 per cent after five years. Fifty bonds of $100 each were also executed payable after five years with interest at five per cent. J L Smyzer and the Louisville Paper company are made defendant to the action for the reason that they hold a number of Mr Nunemacher's bonds. It is stated in the petition that th einterest on the first issue of bonds has been due and unpaid for more than 30 days. Mr Nunemacher who is president of the board of trade, vice president of the National Association of Manufacturers and prominent in church circles has been missing for several days. What is supposed to be a tangible clue to the whereabouts of Nunemacher is a letter believed to have been written by Mr Nunemacher which was received by Mrs Emma Carlton of New Albany Indiana, a sister today. The letter was written on the back of an envelope. It was dated Aurora Indiana and follows in part: Walking Soft Sulphur. Walked forty one miles, Charleston to North Vernon. Left last night. Am here now. Wrong side river. Will try and get Cincinnati tonight. Head hurts all time. Although Mrs Carlton has been married thirty years the letter was addressed Miss AmmaNunemacher, her maiden name. Relatives here believe that Mr Nunemacher is trying to reach Soft Sulphur Springs Virginia and point to the letter as evidence that he is suffering from severe mental strain. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ IMPORTANT: To stop receiving these notifications, you need to know if you are receiving them through a mailing list or if you subscribed through the Newspaper Abstracts website. The cases will come up in a magistrate court Monday morning. The physician and his wife were charged with unmerciful exposure of a child and exhibiting for gain or reward, an infant under 16 years of age. Dr Snyder said today: My arrest has come entirely through misguided sentiment. I am not exhibiting these babies for the money that I asked as admission, for I would be a food to do so. I have bought this machine and am trying to introduce it to the public. As far as the babies have been mistreated or neglected that is all foolishness. I have always treated these children with the utmost care and have constantly an expert trained nurse to watch after them. You see I got these babies from the maternity hospital in Pittsburg. Although they are normally born infants they were afflicted in some way and I believed that they would have been benefitted by the treatment in the incubator. They are all charity patients and it has always been my plan after raising the babies to turn them over to some good family for adoption. The only possible cause for the death of these babies is that the elctrical current at the state fair was not sufficient. If possible, would someone on these lists please look-up an Ervine & Rosetta nee Watson Morris in the 1930 census/ Marion or Nelson Co./ Ky. I don't have anything on Ervine/Irving? Morris, but Rosetta Watson was my aunt, sister of my father, William Guthrie Watson. Rosetta was born in 1896 d/o Abbott/Frank Watson or Frank/ Abbott Watson & Ann Elizabeth Ballard (Nannie).
