In Harlan county there have been 200 deaths since the latter part of August, most of them from flux." A Desperate Affray in a Kentucky Town Ends in Two Deaths. Article Text: Barboursville, Ky., Feb 7.--A desperate fight occurred at Mount Pleasant, in Harlan county, Monday night in which Will and John TURNER were killed instantly by Dr. William NOLIN, a prominent physician at that city. The fight began in a barber shop on the court house square. Dr. NOLIN walked into the shop and seeing John TURNER in the shop told him he would kill him. Both men began firing. Turner fell dead. NOLIN by this time had exhausted the loads in his pistol. Will TURNER, an uncle of John, arrived and attacked NOLIN. Neither had pistols, but used their knives. They had struggled over considerable ground, and when TURNER was killed they were in the middle of the street. John TURNER is a son of Judge George B. TURNER, a prominent attorney. It was John TURNER and his brothers who led the TURNER side of the famous HOWARD-TURNER feud in Harlan county a few years since. Wills HOWARD, the leader of the other side, was hanged in Missouri recently. This trouble is thought by many to be a renewal of the old vendetta. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ KY-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news! Article Text: A most lamentable and distressing occurrence took place near the mouth of Cypress creek, in the county of Calloway, Kentucky, a few miles below the mouth of Sandy, on Wednesday, the 24th ultimo. A little son of Mr. J. B. WINCHESTER, who lives near the mouth of Cypress, was fishing in the creek, a few rods from the house on the opposite side, below a log across the creek, just left very slippery from the subsidence of the back water from Tennessee river, then falling from the late rise. He is supposed to have fallen in from the log, and his mother and grandmother (Mr. WINCHESTER's mother) to have been drowned in attempting to get him out. A little girl, about three years old, and just beginning to talk, and a suckling infant about three months old, were all that were left at the house. The little girl crossed the log and went to a neighbor's house, about a quarter of a mile off, and told them, as well a she could be understood, that her mother was in the water. On search! being made, the three bodies were found within about six feet of each other, Mr. WINCHESTER's wife having one handful of his mother's hair. The scene must have been heart-rending to the father! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ KY-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
